Job Description

This job opportunity is offered by a university, a well-established educational institution dedicated to providing a comprehensive, enriching experience for its students and staff. Known for its commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment, the university continually seeks to enhance its dining services to better serve its community. The position of cook plays a critical role in supporting these dining services by ensuring high-quality food preparation and presentation. As a cook at the university, you will be an essential member of the culinary team, working closely with the chef and kitchen manager to maintain smooth kitchen operations and uphold the highest standards of food safety and quality.

The role involves a variety of responsibilities that extend beyond basic cooking tasks. You will be responsible for receiving and inspecting supplies to ensure they meet the university's quality and quantity standards. In addition, you will handle food preparation duties such as cutting, trimming, carving, and boning meats and poultry, which are crucial for meal preparation. Collaboration with other kitchen staff is fundamental, as you will prepare, cook, and assist with serving a range of foods including meats, sauces, vegetables, and soups. Your role will emphasize adherence to recipes and presentation standards, ensuring that every dish served meets expectations.

Moreover, maintaining cleanliness and organization within the kitchen is a significant aspect of this role. You will ensure that the cooking lines are clean, stocked, and ready for the next day's operations. The university places strong importance on food safety practices and personal hygiene, which are integral to your daily duties to create a safe and healthy environment for both kitchen staff and diners. This full-time opportunity involves a work week from Sunday through Saturday, with most offices operating Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., although you may be scheduled to work other hours, including weekends and evenings to fulfill business needs.

This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of professional experience with formal training or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid driver’s license is also necessary. The university is dedicated to accommodating employees with disabilities, providing reasonable accommodations to ensure all qualified personnel can perform their essential job functions effectively. If you are passionate about culinary arts, enjoy working in a dynamic team environment, and are committed to delivering excellent food service, this cook position could be a perfect fit for you within the university's vibrant food service team.
