This part-time cook position at Cascadia Healthcare involves preparing and serving food for residents, employees, and special events, adhering strictly to food safety and handling protocols. The position requires working on weekends, specifically Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm. Key responsibilities include preparing and portioning food using proper techniques, utilizing standardized recipes, maintaining temperature control, serving residents correctly based on diet orders, and adhering to portion control standards. The cook will also be involved in receiving and storing food supplies, maintaining kitchen equipment, and performing cleaning duties according to established policies. Communication skills are essential, as the role involves interacting positively with residents, their families, and co-workers. The cook should be detail-oriented, patient, and capable of working efficiently both independently and as part of a team.

Cascadia Healthcare seeks candidates with knowledge of safe food preparation, basic nutrition, and quantity food production. The ideal candidate will have experience in large quantity food preparation and, preferably, experience in a long-term care environment or therapeutic diet preparation. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, along with ServSafe Food Safety Certification and a Food Handlers permit if required by state regulations. The role demands a minimum age of 18 years due to federal child labor laws preventing younger individuals from working with certain kitchen equipment.

Job Duties

  • Prepares food for regular and therapeutic diets according to a planned menu, prepares alternative items to meet residents’ individual needs and food preferences, prepares and/or portions food using proper food handling and food safety techniques, makes only authorized changes to the planned menu and records the change, ensures that food tastes good and is served in an attractive, appetizing manner, utilizes standardized recipes to prepare menu items, ensures that meals and snacks are delivered to designated areas according to established time schedules
