Job Description

Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS) is a faith-based nonprofit organization founded in 1955 and headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota. As one of the largest nonprofit senior housing and services providers in the United States, PHS is committed to enriching the lives and touching the hearts of older adults through a broad array of high-quality housing choices, care options, and services. With a dedicated team of over 7,500 employees, PHS serves more than 26,000 older adults every year across more than 60 senior living communities in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. PHS is also a co-owner of Genevive, the largest geriatric primary care practice in Minnesota, providing comprehensive care to over 15,000 older adults.

PHS takes pride in its innovative approach, promoting independence, purposeful living, and overall well-being among its residents. The organization embraces a strong commitment to its people, focusing on enabling, empowering, engaging, educating, and inspiring employees to bring their best talents to work. This culture fosters growth opportunities with about 80 percent of leadership roles filled through internal development. PHS holds firmly to its Christian Ministry values, reflecting the love of God and serving others as an expression of grace. Inclusivity is key at PHS, and they maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all residents, guests, employees, and volunteers.

SummerWood of Plymouth is one of PHS’s senior living communities located in the thriving west Minneapolis suburb of Plymouth, Minnesota. The community offers assisted living and assisted living memory care, with convenient access to major highways, shopping, restaurants, and community amenities like a public library and local community center. Employees at SummerWood benefit from amenities such as off-street parking, discounted employee meals, and free access to a fitness center.

SummerWood of Plymouth is currently seeking part-time and on-call cooks to join its dedicated team. The cook position plays a vital role in creating high-quality meals that are attractive, nutritious, and palatable while adhering to all established food safety regulations and organizational policies. The role not only involves meal preparation and serving but also contributes significantly to the overall dining experience for residents, ensuring satisfaction and enjoyment. The starting pay range for this role is estimated between $21.00 and $22.64 per hour, though actual pay depends on factors like individual qualifications and market conditions. The organization values individuals aligned with its mission and operating philosophies, particularly those who bring a passion for care and service to older adults.

PHS offers robust benefits to eligible employees, including health and dental insurance, employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts, life insurance, retirement plans with employer matching, and paid time off. Part-time benefits are also available, including vision insurance and education assistance programs. All employees have access to programs like an employee assistance program and college partnership educational discounts. With a supportive team-oriented environment and opportunities for growth and advancement, SummerWood of Plymouth and PHS represent an excellent workplace for individuals committed to meaningful work in senior care.
