Job Description
Our hospital is a leading healthcare institution committed to providing exceptional patient care and supporting the health and well-being of our community. We operate with a steadfast dedication to equality and nondiscrimination in our hiring practices, embracing diversity and offering equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, or any other status protected by law. Our hospital environment is dynamic and demands a variety of healthcare and support roles, including those in our food services department, where maintaining high standards for food preparation, safety, and sanitation is critical to the comfort and recovery of our patients and the satisfaction of our staff and visitors.
The Food Preparation Worker position at our hospital involves performing a variety of routine and specialized tasks to prepare and cook food items for meal services. This role is essential to ensuring that the meals meet safety and quality standards, are delivered timely, and adhere to hospital nutritional guidelines. The position involves working under the supervision of directors, operations managers, or supervisors, and requires an individual who can follow written and oral instructions accurately, perform simple mathematical calculations for standardized recipes, and manage kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
In addition to daily meal preparation, the Food Preparation Worker is responsible for setting up patient tray lines and other food service areas, ensuring all food items are properly prepared, stored, and served at the correct temperatures. This position requires physical stamina, as it involves standing, walking, bending, lifting, and exposure to various kitchen elements such as heat and odors. The successful candidate will also maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in compliance with regulatory agencies to ensure a safe and pleasant environment.
The role demands adherence to all relevant hospital policies, including compliance with HMHD Compliance plans, corporate integrity, HIPAA regulations, and safety guidelines. Employees will engage in ongoing training and education to uphold these standards and demonstrate service excellence by maintaining patient confidentiality and acting as an ambassador for the hospital's values and service lines. There is an emphasis on teamwork, professionalism, communication, and problem-solving skills to ensure smooth kitchen operations and delivery of excellent food services.
This Food Preparation Worker position does not require formal education but prefers candidates with prior experience in restaurant, hospital, or school food service environments. The role offers an opportunity to work in a supportive setting where individuals can develop skills, contribute meaningfully to patient care, and be part of a dedicated team. While no specific licenses or certifications are required, basic skills in reading, writing, and following instructions are essential. Comfortable leather shoes and adherence to a uniform dress code are necessary for the safety and professionalism expected in the kitchen area. This role may require working extended hours given the needs of hospital services.
