Job Description
CHI St. Alexius Health is a renowned regional health network committed to delivering exceptional healthcare services throughout western and central North Dakota and parts of South Dakota. Established in 1885, CHI St. Alexius Health has built a longstanding tradition of excellence and innovation in patient care. With a central tertiary hospital located in Bismarck, the health system also operates several critical access hospitals (CAHs) in smaller communities including Carrington, Dickinson, Devils Lake, Garrison, Turtle Lake, Washburn, and Williston. Furthermore, it manages four CAHs in North Dakota situated in Elgin, Linton, and Wishek, along with the Mobridge Regional Medical Center in South Dakota. This extensive network of hospitals, clinics, and outpatient services ensures that the local and regional population receives comprehensive medical attention including Level II Trauma Center services, primary and specialty physician clinics, home health and hospice services, durable medical equipment services, fitness and human performance resources, and various ancillary healthcare services.
CHI St. Alexius Health is part of CommonSpirit Health, a nonprofit Catholic health system which emerged in 2019 from the alignment of Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health. The organization is deeply committed to fostering healthier communities while upholding a mission that ensures access to high-quality care for all individuals regardless of background. This commitment translates into continuous quality improvement efforts, supreme patient safety standards, and a compassionate care model that embraces holistic well-being.
The Food Service Worker position at CHI St. Alexius Health plays a vital role in supporting the healthcare facility’s mission by preparing nutritious, safe, and delicious meals for patients, staff, and visitors. Food preparation in this healthcare environment demands adherence to rigorous state and federal laws governing dietary restrictions and hygiene standards, especially given the necessity of accommodating multiple therapeutic diets and managing food allergies. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for utilizing commercial kitchen equipment such as slicers, mixers, ovens, fryers, steamers, stove tops, and grills to produce a variety of dishes consistent with menu guidelines and dietary requirements.
The role extends beyond basic meal preparation to include compliance with stringent food safety protocols including temperature monitoring during cooking, holding, and storage to prevent contamination. The Food Service Worker will be instrumental in maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment, performing washing and cleaning duties to uphold sanitation standards critical in a healthcare setting. Attention to detail regarding labeling and storage of food, machinery, and equipment is also fundamental to the position.
Employment in this role is typically full-time or part-time as managed by the facility’s staffing needs. The pay range offered for this role is $16.29 to $21.79 per hour, and the position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $3000, presenting an attractive opportunity for entry-level professionals seeking to grow within healthcare food services while making a tangible impact on patient care and hospital operations.
By joining CHI St. Alexius Health as a Food Service Worker, candidates become part of a respected healthcare system that values collaboration, professionalism, and dedication to improving community health outcomes. The individual will engage daily with a multidisciplinary team that places the highest priority on quality control measures, recipe adherence, and consistent food quality, all contributing to patient satisfaction and nutritional well-being. This opportunity suits those who are passionate about food service, patient care, and working within a dynamic healthcare environment that champions safety, compliance, and excellence at every turn.
