Job Description

The hiring organization is a healthcare facility specializing in mental health, rehabilitation, and treatment services. This establishment focuses on providing comprehensive care to clients who require specialized support in their recovery and wellbeing. The facility prioritizes quality care while ensuring that all aspects of services provided, including nutrition and meal preparation, align with the individual needs and dietary restrictions of its clients. They employ compassionate and skillful professionals who are committed to enhancing the health outcomes and comfort of those they serve. The facility continually invests in staff development and maintains stringent hygiene and safety practices to comply with healthcare standards and regulatory requirements, aiming to promote a safe and therapeutic environment for clients and staff alike.

The role of Cook within this healthcare setting is critical as it supports the nutritional and dietary needs of clients dealing with various health challenges, including mental health issues and rehabilitation. The position involves preparing and serving daily meals that adhere to established menu guidelines and dietary restrictions. The Cook must maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen, following HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) guidelines, which are essential in preventing foodborne illnesses and ensuring food safety. Additionally, the Cook assists in the overall upkeep of the kitchen by washing dishes and utensils, sweeping and mopping floors, and applying a 'clean as you go' approach throughout their shift to maintain a hygienic workspace.

This role requires an intermediate level of culinary skills, including the operation of kitchen equipment and a solid understanding of OSHA regulations related to food preparation, kitchen safety, and sanitation. The Cook must be capable of recognizing and addressing the needs and concerns of clients, maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive information related to client care or medical details. Effective communication and decision-making skills are crucial in this role, as is a willingness to learn about addiction and recovery principles, which underpin the facility's treatment philosophy.

Employment in this role requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, with associate's or bachelor's degrees preferred. Candidates should bring at least two years of cooking experience in a restaurant, hotel, or similar setting, preferably with experience in healthcare food services. CPR and First Aid certification are mandatory, with opportunities to obtain certification post-hire if not already certified. Additional requirements include meeting state-mandated pre-employment screenings, maintaining a current Food Handlers Certification, and physical capability to perform kitchen duties that often involve standing, lifting, and moving for extended periods.

The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a vital service within the healthcare industry, blending culinary expertise with a commitment to client wellbeing. It is suitable for individuals passionate about food preparation and nutrition who seek a meaningful role supporting individuals in recovery and rehabilitation.
