Job Description

Currently, Liberty Senior Living is actively seeking a skilled and experienced Cook - Dietary to join their dedicated culinary team. This position plays a crucial role in the facility’s food service operation by preparing and serving nutritious, high-quality meals designed to meet the special dietary needs of the senior residents. The Cook - Dietary position is ideal for someone who is passionate about food preparation, nutrition, and customer service within a healthcare-oriented hospitality setting. This role requires following standardized recipes, adapting menus as directed, and ensuring all food safety and sanitation standards are strictly observed. The Cook will also actively participate in menu planning, food production, and inventory management while maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment.

As a member of the Liberty Senior Living team, the Cook is responsible not only for food preparation but also for creating a positive dining experience for residents and customers, supporting their independence and overall well-being. This includes personalized meal preparation for dietary restrictions, allergies, and special requests, as well as encouraging resident engagement in the dining program. The Cook works closely with the Executive Chef and other kitchen staff to ensure accurate food production schedules, reduce waste, and maintain excellent food quality and safety standards.

Additionally, the Cook is involved in maintaining compliance with all health and safety regulations, cleaning and sanitizing work areas, and assisting with ordering and inventory control. The role demands someone who is detail-oriented, adaptable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong technical competence in culinary skills and nutrition services within a senior living context, actively contributing to the organizational mission of Liberty Cares. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Two or more years of restaurant experience
  • Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment
  • Attendance at trainings and department meetings when necessary
  • Willingness to perform other duties as outlined by supervisor

Job Duties

  • Follow recipes and assist with recipe modification and development
  • Follow production schedules based on forecasts and tallies
  • Record and report over-production, underproduction, and waste
  • Prepare foods using methods designed to maintain nutrition, flavor, appearance, tenderness, and quality
  • Offer and prepare appropriate substitute food items when a dislike occurs
  • Implement and record menu changes as directed by the Executive Chef
  • Prepare foods to meet the special needs of individual residents such as special requests and allergies
  • Document and communicate special items preparation
  • Advise Executive Chef of inventory needs, usage and shortages
  • Utilize safe food preparation methods when receiving, preparing, storing, cooling, freezing, holding, transporting, serving, and reheating foods
  • Monitor temperature records and checklists for holding and storing equipment to maintain safe food
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen at all times
  • Ensure and assist with cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work areas according to established checklist
  • Create a positive dining experience for customers that promotes their independence, choice and overall well-being
  • Encourage participation in the dining program and meal activities
  • Solicit feedback by interacting with customers
  • Convey feedback and make recommendations regarding food quality and customer satisfaction to supervisor
  • Monitor meal portion controls to meet customer requests and regulations and make recommendations to minimize waste
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, maintaining, monitoring and tracking food and supplies
  • Demonstrate good stewardship of available resources including supplies, utilities, and time
  • Actively participate and implement quality performance in all job responsibilities and functions
  • Participate in and promote teamwork and cooperation within the department and between other departments
  • Seek, recommend, and/or implement new methods and means of providing quality service and continuous improvement
  • Support the departmental mission and the Liberty Cares mission
  • Maintain knowledge of organization and industry policies and practices
  • Look for and report any items in need of repair to the Executive Chef
  • Perform all daily tasks in accordance with established facility and departmental policies and procedures
  • Assist with resident evacuations and secure food service area in case of emergency
  • Assist with special event preparation, set up and tear down
  • Attend in-service training and other work-related meetings as required
  • Carry out special projects as identified
  • Help with other areas of the building as needed
