Corewell Health is currently hiring a part-time Cook to join the Nutrition Department at the Farmington Hills Hospital location. This vital role contributes to the health and satisfaction of patients, guests, and team members by preparing delicious and nutritious meals. The Cook will be responsible for the preparation and execution of a variety of dishes in multiple settings including restaurants, room service, and grab & go markets within the health system. This position offers an opportunity to showcase culinary skills through hot food preparation methods such as frying, baking, broiling, braising, and grilling, while also adhering to strict food safety and sanitation standards. The role includes ingredient assembly, following standardized recipes, monitoring food quality and presentation, and maintaining appropriate food temperatures. The Cook is key to ensuring patient diet requirements are met individually and that food is stored properly with careful attention to labeling and utilization of leftovers. Scheduled for 20 hours per week with rotating shifts, this part-time role provides flexibility and is suited for individuals passionate about nutrition and health care. The position requires certification including a CRT-Accredited Food Handler certificate or related food allergy and protection management certifications within 90 days of hire. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in food service or equivalent
  • Must obtain CRT-Accredited Food Handler certification within 90 days
  • Must obtain CRT-Accredited Food Allergy Certificate within 90 days or CRT-Accredited Food Protection Manager certification within 90 days
  • Ability to work rotating shifts
  • Must comply with vaccine and drug-free workplace policies
  • Ability to follow health and safety regulations
  • Ability to perform cooking and food preparation duties as outlined

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of relevant experience in food service or equivalent experience
  • CRT-Accredited Food Handler- ANSI National Accreditation Board within 90 days
  • CRT-Accredited Food Allergy Certificate - ANSI National Accreditation Board within 90 days
  • OR CRT-Accredited Food Protection Manager, CFP -ANSI National Accreditation Board within 90 days
  • Courses in food preparation preferred
  • Baking education and cake decorating techniques course preferred
  • Ability to read, write and follow standardized recipes
  • Knowledgeable of patient diet requirements and sanitation practices

Job Duties

  • Performs hot food preparation including frying, baking, broiling, braising and grilling
  • Prepares soups, cereals, eggs, entrees, vegetables, and other food items as necessary
  • Monitors food quantity needs as customer counts or volumes vary
  • Assembles and prepares ingredients for cooking by cleaning and cutting
  • Follows standardized recipes, calculating ingredients based on weight and volume
  • Monitors food quality, assesses food presentation in regards to taste, texture and eye appeal and maintains food temperatures
  • Records temperatures correctly on temperature log sheets and replaces food items that do not meet standards
  • Stores food items by labeling and dating per standards and utilizes leftovers within allotted time
  • Sets up steam tables on patient and cafeteria tray lines
  • Communicates with other staff members to ensure continuity and coordination of services
