Job Description
Hope Ministries is a faith-based organization dedicated to serving individuals and families in need by providing vital support services including meals, shelter, and spiritual guidance. The organization operates within food services to deliver compassionate care to those it serves, emphasizing not only nourishment but also the embodiment of Christian values. As a recognized entity in the community, Hope Ministries integrates practical assistance with spiritual encouragement, actively contributing to the betterment of lives through dedicated programs and outreach efforts. This ministry is committed to fostering an environment where God's love is demonstrated in tangible ways through every service provided and interaction with clients.
The role of the Cook at Hope Ministries is a pivotal part-time position responsible for preparing nutritious, well-balanced family meals while also overseeing and mentoring kitchen work skills participants. This role requires an individual who is not only skilled in institutional cooking for large groups of 100 or more but who also embraces the mission and values of Hope Ministries. The Cook ensures that all meals served meet high standards of taste, presentation, and nutritional value while maintaining cleanliness and adherence to state and industry health regulations within the kitchen, dining, and food storage areas.
More than meal preparation, the Cook plays a vital leadership role by supervising kitchen participants, teaching proper food preparation techniques, and reinforcing the importance of hygiene and safety standards. This leadership element highlights the Cook’s function as a mentor and supervisor, contributing to the growth and skill development of participants. In addition to kitchen duties, the Cook is tasked with inventory management, valuing donated products accurately, coordinating supply needs with the Food Services Manager, and reporting any maintenance concerns.
The work schedule is specifically designed for weekend availability, allowing the Cook to work 24 hours per week during Saturdays and Sundays, with shifts typically from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including appropriate breaks. This schedule requires flexibility, including working on major holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. The role is hourly and non-exempt, supervised directly by the Food Services Manager, and demands a cooperative spirit to work effectively alongside staff members. Moreover, the Cook participates in the spiritual growth and Christian instruction of those who engage with Hope Ministries, through mentoring, scripture sharing, and prayer, thus intertwining practical service with spiritual mentorship.
In summary, the Cook position at Hope Ministries offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to both the physical nourishment and spiritual upliftment of community members, embodying the organization's mission to provide food and hope. Individuals selected for this role will find themselves playing an essential part in maintaining excellence in food service operations while helping to create a welcoming and respectful kitchen environment centered on Christian values and community outreach.
