Job Description

Intermountain Health is a renowned healthcare organization committed to providing outstanding patient care, advanced medical services, and a supportive work environment. Among its numerous facilities, Layton Hospital stands out as a pivotal medical center serving the community of Layton, Utah. The hospital is equipped with modern amenities and staffed by dedicated professionals who strive to deliver excellent healthcare through innovative methods and compassionate services. As part of the larger Intermountain Health network, Layton Hospital offers comprehensive healthcare solutions including surgical, emergency, and specialized care, all tailored to meet the diverse needs of its patients.

The Culinary Services Department at Layton Hospital is seeking motivated and dependable Food Production Workers to join their team on a PRN basis. This position plays an essential role in maintaining the quality and safety of food preparation and service within the hospital. A PRN role implies working as needed to cover department requirements without guaranteed minimum hours, mostly during the evening shift from 3:00pm to 11:30pm, with occasional mid-shifts from 10:00am to 7:00pm. The candidate must be available seven days a week including weekends and holidays. Typically, PRN workers perform 1 to 3 shifts per week to assist with fluctuating department demands. The pay rate is competitive, based on experience, ranging between $18.84 and $24.50 per hour.

The Food Production Worker will be responsible for preparing and cooking food items following specific recipes and instructions, potentially handling large scale food production and specialty meal assembly. The role requires maintaining an organized and sanitary environment, ensuring proper food quantities and inventory rotation, and interacting with customers across various venues including catering, retail outlets, and patient care. Additional responsibilities may include delivering patient meals, cashier duties, stocking supplies, and operating ware-washing equipment. Prior cooking experience is preferred to enhance performance in this role.

Candidates must possess a Food Handler Permit or ServSafe certification by their first day of work if employed in Utah or Idaho. Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively are critical, along with a strong understanding of food safety and handling practices. The job requires physical endurance, including the ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy items, and work in varying temperature environments such as near grills or refrigeration units while handling cleaning chemicals safely.

Intermountain Health values the well-being of its employees, providing a generous benefits package focused on wellness in mind, body, and spirit. The organization is an equal opportunity employer, fostering an inclusive work culture that respects diversity regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status. This role offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about food service and healthcare to contribute meaningfully to patient care and hospital operations within a supportive and dynamic healthcare environment.
