Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • CPR and hospital-selected de-escalation technique certification
  • current ServSafe certificate within 3 months of hire
  • three years of experience in a food service line or restaurant setting
  • ability to follow infection control practices
  • capability to use kitchen equipment like blenders, mixers, grinders, and slicers
  • ability to work under direct supervision
  • willingness to assist with inventory control and kitchen cleaning
  • adherence to safety protocols and reporting requirements

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Determine types and quantities of meats, vegetables, and soups to be prepared by reviewing planned menus
  • determine amount of foods needed to meet weekly menus and submit order to supervisor
  • ensure meals are ready at specified times
  • consult with supervisor regarding use of leftovers
  • consult registered dietitian on modified diets as necessary
  • supervise food services workers when washing, trimming, or preparing food
  • measure and mix ingredients according to approved recipes using blenders, mixers, grinders, slicers, etc
  • make sauces, soups, stews, casseroles, and desserts meeting established dietary guidelines
  • cook meat, fish, and fowl by baking, roasting, broiling, and steaming
  • carve meat, fish, and fowl into individual servings according to menu combinations and patient diet orders
  • test foods for proper cooking temperatures and balanced seasoning, adjusting heat controls as necessary
  • improve flavor and texture of food by adding ingredients or seasonings
  • observe infection prevention and control practices at all times
  • maintain kitchen cleanliness, neatness, and organization
  • assist in serving patients when necessary
  • perform all aspects of patient care to optimize safety and reduce healthcare errors
  • support and maintain a culture of safety and quality
  • ensure food service staff training on fire suppression and other PPE protections as required
  • perform other duties as assigned
