Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • one to two years related experience or training
  • equivalent combination of education and experience
  • strong commitment to mission-driven work
  • reliable transportation and valid driver’s license for agency van driving
  • ability to work full time from 10:00am to 7:00pm
  • ability to pass background checks
  • adherence to drug-free workplace policy

Job Qualifications

  • Institutional and restaurant experience
  • good working knowledge of commercial food preparation and sanitation safety standards
  • proficient with commercial grade kitchen equipment
  • ability to work independently and maintain self-sufficiency
  • excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • flexibility and ability to shift priorities as needed
  • knowledge of service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
  • ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Job Duties

  • Prepares and directs others in all aspects of meal preparation
  • executes and maintains an efficient, economical and nutritious food service program for the shelter
  • receives and supervises food donations and arranges storage of food products and materials
  • assists with food production and presentation of daily menu items and special events
  • monitors quality standards in meal production
  • ensures kitchen sanitation and safety regulations are observed
  • monitors costing of raw materials
  • oversees portion control, waste and inventory levels
  • trains and assists volunteers
  • drives agency van to pick up and deliver food supplies
  • supports and adheres to Catholic Charities' vision, mission, values and Code of Ethics
  • maintains confidentiality of client and agency information
  • uses creativity and innovation in program development and service delivery
  • maintains regular and predictable attendance
