Job Description
The JBSA Fort Sam Houston Student Activity Center, located in the vibrant community of San Antonio, TX, serves as a hub for various student and recreational activities on a military installation. Job Requirements
- Resided within the United States for at least 3 years and live within commuting area
- Completed background investigation with favorable results
- Able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete training
- Available for shift work including evenings, weekends, holidays, special situations
- Able to pass a favorable pre-employment physical
- Ability to stand and walk continually, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending
- Frequently lift/move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted, occasionally over 40 pounds with assistance
- Male applicants born after 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
- Direct deposit required
- Satisfactorily complete employment verification (E-Verify)
- Must meet all qualification, eligibility, and background requirements
- Pre-employment requirements met prior to entrance on duty
Job Qualifications
- Experience in food preparation and presentation gained in a grill, snack bar, restaurant, club or similar food activity
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of operating and cleaning food service equipment
- Familiarity with characteristics of various foods
- Ability to season food and determine when foods are done
- Knowledge of food presentation methods and procedures
- Open to everyone with preference categories including Business Based Action, Military Spouse Preference, Veteran, Spouse/Widow/Parent of Veteran, and Transition Hiring Preference
Job Duties
- Perform simple cooking tasks such as preparing pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and vegetables
- Prepare hot cereals, broiled meats, soups, sauces, gravies, and cold sandwich fillings
- Prepare convenience foods including frozen hash browns, fish fillets, chicken nuggets, and bake pizza
- Perform food preparation techniques like peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, or breading
- Weigh, measure, assemble ingredients, set up and replenish salad bar
- Portion foods for meal service and manage leftovers according to procedures
- Wash and clean kitchen equipment and ensure sanitation
