The Child Development Center located on Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, is seeking a dedicated individual for a Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) position. Job Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks including Child Care Tier 1 background investigation
  • able to lift up to 40 pounds
  • completion of Food Handler's certification training within specified time
  • able to obtain and maintain current immunizations including annual influenza vaccination
  • must have resided in the United States for three years and reside in the commuting area of the vacancy
  • U.S. citizenship or U.S. nationality with territory residence requirement met

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in food preparation principles and characteristics of food
  • experience in planning processes to ensure entire meals are prepared and cooked on time
  • ability to perform yield testing to determine portion cost
  • ability to adjust ingredients in standardized recipes
  • knowledge of procedures to order, issue, and store food
  • open to all applicants
  • must meet eligibility requirements such as military spouse preference, veteran preference, or transition hiring preference

Job Duties

  • Roasts, broils, bakes, fries, boils, steams and stews meats, fish, and poultry
  • prepares soups, stocks, broths, gravies, sauces, and puddings without packaged mixes
  • adjusts standardized recipes for number of servings and performs yield testing
  • prepares cold food platters such as ham, salmon, and roast beef platters, and salads and hors d'oeuvres
  • mixes and prepares cold sauces, meat glazes, molded aspics, and salad dressings
  • carves vegetables and fruits as garnishes for food platters and dishes
  • prepares entire meals coordinating cooking of several items to ensure complete meals are ready on time and at proper temperature
  • performs other related duties as assigned
