Job Requirements

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs
  • Must be able to bend, squat, stand, and walk for long periods
  • Employment subject to criminal background check and pre-employment physical
  • Must comply with University of California vaccination policies
  • Life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS) require hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment
  • Must maintain kitchen cleanliness and sanitation at all times
  • Ability to follow department standardized recipes and kitchen procedures

Job Qualifications

  • One year experience as a cook in a large restaurant, hotel, or complex healthcare facility
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food and food products
  • Ability to prepare and coordinate food orders for timely delivery
  • Skilled in quality food production including tray-line, cafeteria, grill, or catering
  • Ability to plate and garnish cooked items appropriately
  • Knowledge of health department sanitation codes
  • Superb customer service skills
  • Food Handler's Card or Certification preferred
  • Proficient knife skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience scratch cooking with meats, fish, vegetables, soups, and sauces preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare hot and cold menu items for cafeteria, tray-line, and special functions according to standardized recipes
  • Perform meat fabrication, fish cutting, and sauce making
  • Ensure quality in appearance, taste, temperature, and portion control of food items
  • Maintain clean and sanitary kitchen and workstation including equipment
  • Plate and garnish dishes following presentation standards
  • Assist in closing kitchen stations and completing closing checklists
  • Attend scheduled employee meetings and suggest improvements
