Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • One year experience demonstrating ability to cook a variety of foods in quantity
  • One year experience demonstrating knowledge of care and use of cooking utensils or equipment
  • Ability to lift up to seventy-five pounds and move three to four feet
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and bend, stoop, and reach frequently

  • One year experience cooking a variety of foods in quantity with knowledge of seasoning and required cooking time
  • One year experience demonstrating knowledge of care and use of cooking utensils and equipment
  • Ability to lift up to seventy-five pounds and move three to four feet
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and bend, stoop, and reach frequently
  • Preferred three years experience preparing food in an institutional setting
  • Preferred two years experience providing leadership through instruction and example
  • Preferred vocational training
  • Preferred ServSafe certification

Job Duties

  • Work with coworkers in a team environment that promotes positive service qualities and respect of residents
  • Review production information with staff daily and monitor correct quantities of production and portioning
  • Prepare all food items in accordance with departmental standards ensuring nutritional value, appearance, palatability, and temperature
  • Maintain overall cleanliness of the kitchen including washing and putting away dishes, cleaning floors and counters, and disinfecting necessary areas
  • Ensure cleanliness of dining room including changing tablecloths and vacuuming after meals
  • Ensure staff adherence to food safety and sanitation standards
  • Guide, assist, and instruct other staff members to ensure smooth completion of assignments
  • Serve as designated person in charge in absence of manager and perform additional tasks as directed
  • Assist in the serving and delivery of meals when necessary
  • Prepare and serve special events and catering
  • Provide direction with cleanup operations and monitor cleaning schedules
  • Assist in ordering and receiving food and ensure proper storage
  • Aid in training and orientation of new employees
  • Attend staff meetings, projects, special events, committees, and mandatory training
  • Follow all applicable state regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
