The role of Cook 1 at Legends Global is fundamental to the seamless operation of their food preparation and service team. This hourly, non-exempt position reports directly to the Executive Chef, Executive Sous Chef, or Sous Chef, placing the employee in close collaboration with the culinary leadership team to ensure the highest food quality and safety standards are upheld. The Cook 1 is entrusted with preparing a variety of food items—including entrees, salads, appetizers, sandwiches, and more—in an efficient, timely, and sanitary manner that reflects the standards and expectations of the company. Beyond basic cooking tasks, the Cook 1 is expected to manage inventory, assist with supply orders, and contribute to the training and mentorship of junior kitchen staff, such as Cooks I and II.

The responsibilities also extend to sophisticated culinary techniques like sautéing, grilling, and carving, as well as the preparation of buffet and plated meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner events. Emphasis is placed on collaboration and communication with the kitchen team to guarantee smooth service delivery during large-scale events. This position necessitates adherence to strict food handling protocols, maintenance of cleanliness and safety standards, and the ability to multitask under potentially high-pressure conditions, including working irregular hours and physical demands such as lifting and standing for prolonged periods. Job Requirements

  • High school degree/GED or equivalent
  • one year certificate from culinary school or comparable experience
  • at least two years of experience in a food and beverage environment
  • ServSafe certification preferred
  • ability to work with limited supervision
  • professional attitude and appearance
  • maintain good personal hygiene
  • good eye-hand coordination
  • ability to read and interpret recipes and prep list
  • ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • results oriented individual with ability to meet required timelines
  • ability to undertake and complete multiple tasks
  • must adhere to local food codes

Job Duties

  • Sauté, grill, and carve food
  • monitor food inventory and assist with ordering supplies as needed
  • prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to recipes and event specifications
  • supervise and mentor cooks I and II, providing guidance on food preparation and presentation techniques
  • ensure proper food handling, sanitation, and safety standards are consistently maintained in the kitchen
  • collaborate with the kitchen team during large events, ensuring efficient food service and timely preparation
  • prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner buffets and plated meals
  • distribute food to banquet servers to serve to guests
  • prepare food using stands grill, ovens, and fryer
  • assist with training new kitchen staff on procedures and standards
  • perform other duties as required
