Job Description
This job opening is with a vibrant Economic Development & Tourism Department situated in College Station, a city known for its dynamic community and thriving tourism sector. The department plays a critical role in boosting local tourism efforts by planning, organizing, and promoting various conventions and leisure tourism activities that attract visitors and enhance the overall economic impact on the community. As a key player in the regional tourism ecosystem, the department collaborates with multiple stakeholders to create cohesive campaigns, develop public events, and support visitor satisfaction through effective event management. The team’s commitment is to fostering an engaging visitor experience while contributing positively to the local economy through targeted event initiatives and partnerships.
The role in focus is the Servicing & Events Coordinator, reporting to the Conventions Manager. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a highly organized and proactive professional to take charge of planning, organizing, promoting, and executing a variety of convention enhancements and leisure tourism activities. The Servicing & Events Coordinator acts as the primary liaison between event clients and the department, ensuring that public events targeted toward visitors and residents of College Station are meticulously developed and carried out. This role is pivotal in establishing partnerships with existing organizations to create complementary events that not only enrich the local tourism calendar but also maximize economic benefits.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the recruitment, training, motivation, and evaluation of interns and part-time or seasonal staff, ensuring that the team functions efficiently and effectively. The coordinator will also manage volunteer coordination duties, schedule and supervise their activities, and assist in resolving any issues or challenges faced during events. Operational management extends to budget preparation and cost center management, with a strong focus on meeting revenue goals and maintaining detailed records and reports.
This position demands excellent customer service assessment skills. The coordinator will distribute and evaluate participant surveys to gauge the quality of service delivered at assigned events and proactively develop methods for improvement. Additionally, the coordinator acts as a liaison between contractors, local businesses, institutions, and other organizations to ensure seamless event execution.
The Servicing & Events Coordinator is tasked with handling logistics from the inception of event planning to the final clean-up, coordinating hospitality services, and aligning the efforts of internal and external teams to meet client or vendor expectations effectively. The role may also involve representing the Economic Development & Tourism Department on internal and external committees and boards, contributing to broader strategic discussions about tourism initiatives. This position is integral to sustaining and enhancing the tourism profile of College Station, offering a blend of project management, stakeholder engagement, and operational oversight duties.
While the job is posted until filled or the closing date, candidates interested in making a significant contribution to community tourism and economic development will find this role both challenging and rewarding. This position is ideal for those with a passion for event planning, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments and community partners to produce outstanding event experiences that benefit the city’s tourism and economic landscape.
