The role of Construction Safety Manager in Seattle, Washington, at Hill International offers an exceptional opportunity for a safety professional with heavy construction expertise, particularly within the rail and transit sectors. The chosen candidate will be responsible for overseeing and enforcing safety compliance on construction sites, ensuring adherence to OSHA regulations, and safeguarding contractor and staff welfare. This full-time position offers a salary range of $95,000 - $175,000, commensurate with experience, education, and location.

In this pivotal role, the Construction Safety Manager will audit contractor compliance with client contractual and safety program requirements and oversee approved safety plans. A critical responsibility includes procuring essential safety equipment for staff and providing comprehensive training on its use to maintain a high safety standard. Maintaining rigorous records of safety training and conducting in-depth reviews of contractor safety plans and performance will ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement. The manager will perform daily safety inspections and reviews of active construction work, generate detailed safety reports on site visits, and participate actively in incident investigations and safety stand-downs. Additionally, the role involves enforcing zero tolerance policies for safety violations, applying corrective actions, and promoting a culture of safety conscientiousness.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in safety and health, engineering, environmental sciences or related field
  • minimum 10 years of professional safety experience in heavy construction projects preferably rail or transit
  • valid SMS or CHST certificate issued by BCSP or CSMC certificate issued by NASP
  • current first aid/CPR/AED certification
  • ability to audit and report safety compliance
  • experience in safety incident reporting and construction reporting
  • willingness to relocate or travel to project site
  • strong organizational skills
  • excellent communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety and Health, Engineering, Environmental Sciences or related field
  • minimum of 10 years of professional safety experience on heavy construction projects, preferably in rail/transit
  • strong experience in safety incident reporting and daily construction reporting for multiple projects
  • valid Safety Management Specialist (SMS) certificate or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certificate issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP)
  • or Certified Safety Manager Construction (CSMC) certificate issued by the National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP)
  • current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
  • excellent communication and leadership skills
  • willingness to relocate or travel to project sites

Job Duties

  • Audit and report on the contractor's compliance with the client's contractual requirements and safety programs
  • procure all necessary safety equipment for staff and train in proper use
  • maintain records of all staff safety training
  • review contractor safety plans and ongoing safety performance
  • perform management oversight of construction activity on behalf of the client
  • monitor compliance to all current OSHA requirements related to construction projects
  • perform daily safety reviews of work in progress according to Safety Regulations and SOP
  • conduct ongoing construction site safety inspections and generate daily safety reports
  • review contractor submitted incident reports, participate in safety stand-downs, and submit lessons learned to Program Safety Manager
  • monitor adherence to zero tolerance and corrective action policy for workers not in compliance with safety policy
