Job Description

The Conservatory General Manager position is an integral leadership role within a dynamic hospitality environment that includes management of the Conservatory Bar, Thelmas grab-and-go, the Veranda Bar, and Trading Post retail space. This role is housed within a reputable hospitality operation known for its dedication to superior food and beverage service, guest experience excellence, and operational efficiency. The establishment is recognized for maintaining high standards in hospitality, encompassing a blend of casual and upscale dining, retail, and beverage service within a unique and welcoming setting that appeals to diverse clientele. The company prides itself on its commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction, aligning with the goal of providing perfect guest experiences at every touchpoint.

As the Conservatory General Manager, you will oversee the multifaceted day-to-day operations of these intertwined venues, ensuring that all aspects of the restaurant's functions are running smoothly and within the policies, procedures, and strategic goals of the company. You will leverage your strong background in restaurant and bar management, demonstrating not only operational acumen but also strong leadership, exceptional team-building capabilities, and a hands-on management style. Your responsibilities encompass leading and motivating a team of associates, ensuring high levels of performance, and maintaining positive morale and ethical standards across all staff. You will be responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, payroll management, and performance assessments, all geared toward fostering a dedicated, focused, and engaged workforce.

The role demands a leader who is proactive in safety and environmental performance, strictly adhering to established safety protocols, and fostering a workplace culture that prioritizes the wellbeing of all employees and guests. Maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations and company SOPs is mandatory, alongside the responsibility to report any incidents or near misses promptly to maintain a zero-accident environment.

Financial stewardship is another critical element of this position. The General Manager will manage and analyze financial metrics across all operations to ensure profitability, controlling costs related to food, labor, and inventory. This includes overseeing inventory management, ordering, and budgeting, as well as maximizing revenue streams through strategic sales and event management. Your familiarity with interpreting financial statements and understanding marketing principles will be vital to the role's success.

The role also requires versatility, as daily tasks may include performing line-staff duties such as bartending, serving, hosting, or cooking. This hands-on approach fosters team cohesion and ensures that operational standards are consistently upheld.

In addition to operational leadership, the Conservatory General Manager will contribute to the wider management team by participating in decision-making processes, attending meetings, and supporting organizational goals. The work environment includes exposure to variable temperatures, noise levels, and potential hazards such as fumes, requiring adaptability and resilience.

Ideal candidates will bring at least 2-3 years of senior management experience in a high-volume full-service bar or restaurant, supported by post-secondary education in hospitality or a related field. A deep understanding of restaurant operations, food and beverage knowledge, budget and cost controls, and legal compliance in food and beverage service is essential. The position demands strong customer service leadership capabilities, flexible scheduling, and a passion for excellence.

This comprehensive role offers an exciting opportunity to lead a vibrant hospitality operation where operational expertise, team leadership, financial management, and a passion for customer service intersect to create memorable guest experiences consistently.
