Job Description

The Concierge, Day Shift position at Sunshine Retirement Living is an hourly, non-exempt role that plays a crucial part in maintaining the welcoming and secure atmosphere of the community during daytime hours. Reporting directly to the Executive Director or Business Office Administrator, the concierge staffs the reception desk, managing various communication and security systems, and serves as a vital point of contact for residents, guests, and staff. This role requires someone with excellent customer service skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to remain calm and effective in emergency situations. The concierge is responsible for monitoring telephone, fax, resident call systems, and exit alarms while performing clerical and administrative duties, ensuring smooth daily operations within the community. They also provide direct assistance by greeting visitors, assisting residents, managing meal counts, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

This position demands a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and teamwork, with a willingness to assist in both routine and unexpected tasks to ensure a positive resident experience. Candidates should be capable of effective communication in English, have the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, and be prepared for various physical demands, including frequent walking for security checks. Previous experience with multi-line phone systems and relevant computer applications is preferred. In addition, the concierge plays an integral role in emergency response, including notifying local authorities and management when urgent situations arise.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age

  • satisfactorily pass criminal record clearance, health screening and TB clearance if applicable

Job Duties

  • Staff the reception desk continuously during assigned period
  • arrange coverage of reception desk during break and lunch periods
  • graciously greet all visitors and politely assist them as necessary
  • politely assist residents and guests as necessary or contact appropriate employee to provide assistance
  • maintain detailed resident and guest register, daily communication log entry, and complete daily checklist log
  • notify staff if resident is being taken out of the building
  • monitor front door to ensure residents do not exit without supervision
  • maintain a clean and safe workspace, community entrance, lobby, and hydration station
  • prepare refreshments and pour coffee during mealtimes as needed
  • sort and direct mail to managers, residents, or forwarding to family
  • help organize guest meal counts and record coupons or payment from residents
  • promptly answer telephone and direct communications
  • monitor fax machine
  • monitor and respond to resident call and exit alarm systems and handle emergencies
  • perform clerical duties as directed
  • notify Maintenance Department of requests and perform maintenance duties as necessary
  • maintain inventory control for office supplies and notify manager of needs
  • perform simple maintenance of office equipment
  • represent the community in a professional, courteous, friendly manner
  • perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
