Job Duties

  • Receive and process calls daily for the hospital network
  • operate AMCOM paging software system handling approximately 2000 pages per day
  • initiate and oversee after-hours on-call schedule for hospital network and specific locations
  • maintain sleep room schedules for medical staff and locate staff as necessary
  • call operating room and recovery room nurses for emergency surgical cases
  • monitor and respond to all hospital activated codes and alarms including trauma, resuscitation, disaster alerts, and more
  • notify essential personnel, security, and 911 emergency services
  • perform daily tests of trauma and MET pagers and document response results
  • handle all in-patient information calls
  • update patient registers for accuracy
  • control patient room telephone on/off activity
  • restrict or unrestrict hospital telephones as necessary
  • distribute new and spare pagers, patient room telephones, TTY equipment, batteries, hospital directories, and speakerphones
  • assist in-house staff requiring international calling and faxing
  • institute emergency backup procedures for system failures
  • apply practical listening skills and courtesy in interactions
  • diffuse irate patient calls when necessary
  • demonstrate flexibility and team support to cover alternate shifts and holiday schedules
  • report to work during inclement weather as the role is essential
  • incorporate hospital and medical center guiding principles and policies into daily activities
  • comply with behavioral expectations of the department
  • maintain courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients
  • demonstrate commitment to customer service standards
  • participate in quality improvement activities
  • complete mandatory education modules
  • understand job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment
  • perform other duties as directed to meet department needs
