Job Description

The University of Oregon is a prestigious public research university that strives to provide a transformative educational experience for its diverse student body. Within the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management, the University Housing department plays a vital role by offering accessible and affordable state-of-the-art housing, dining, social, and academic programs designed to cultivate a strong and inclusive community for students. University Housing is a self-sustaining agency with a robust operational budget of $100 million, dedicated to enhancing student success through innovative programs that foster leadership, innovation, and community engagement among students. The department values equity and inclusion, responsibility and integrity, innovation and learning, as well as safety and security. Professionals working within University Housing are committed to upholding these values daily to ensure an excellent experience for all residents.

The role of Community Safety and Crisis Response Coordinator is crucial to maintaining the safety and well-being of students residing in campus housing. This position is part of the Residential Living sub-unit of Residence Life and reports to the Associate Director of Residence Life for Accountability and Residential Living. It is a regular, ongoing, 1.0 FTE Officer of Administration position with an annual salary band of $45,000 to $55,000. The position operates year-round, including academic terms and university breaks, and requires participation in a rotating on-call schedule. Essential personnel status applies, meaning the coordinator must be available to work during emergencies and university closures unless otherwise notified. Although this role is live-off with no on-campus housing provided, coordinators play an indispensable role in ensuring community safety and crisis management.

As a key Campus Security Authority, the Community Safety and Crisis Response Coordinator undertakes ambulatory rounds throughout University Housing residential halls, provides direct support for students facing mental and physical well-being challenges, facilitates conflict mediation and de-escalation, and enforces policies outlined in the University Housing Contract and Community Standards. The position demands collaboration with various campus partners such as the Dean of Students office, University Counseling Services, and the University of Oregon Police Department. The Coordinator not only provides on-the-ground crisis response but also acts as an advocate and resource regarding policies, trainings, and best practice initiatives to promote a socially just, multicultural, and inclusive environment.

The ideal candidate should embody a strong commitment to student development theory and diversity, working adeptly with underrepresented populations. They will demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with colleagues and community members. The University of Oregon encourages qualified applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply, affirming its dedication to cultural diversity and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The comprehensive benefits package offered includes health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off. Candidates must complete an online application, submit a detailed resume, and provide three professional references before consideration. This role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the safety and development of the University of Oregon’s vibrant residential community.
