Job Description
The Community Builders, Inc. (TCB) is a prominent nonprofit real estate developer and owner dedicated to strengthening neighborhoods across the United States. As one of America's leading organizations in this sector, TCB focuses on building and sustaining strong communities where people of all income levels can thrive and reach their full potential. Their commitment to affordable housing and community development has positioned them as a respected leader in advancing equitable living environments nationwide.
Joining TCB means becoming part of a growing organization with a mission that emphasizes social impact and community sustainability. They work diligently to develop, manage, and maintain residential properties that contribute positively to the quality of life for their residents. TCB prides itself on creating safe, well-maintained, and vibrant neighborhoods through effective property management and community engagement strategies.
The Community Manager role at TCB represents a pivotal position within the company’s property management team. Reporting directly to the Regional Director of Property Management, the Community Manager oversees all facets of community operations and leads the on-site team to achieve organizational goals. This is a full-time, in-office position requiring presence five days a week, underscoring the importance of active leadership and hands-on management.
Key responsibilities for the Community Manager include managing operating budgets, monitoring billing and accounting functions, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, including fair housing laws and affirmative marketing plans. They must balance the physical upkeep of the community property with financial objectives to optimize cash flow and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines.
Customer service excellence is central to this role, as the Community Manager serves as the primary liaison between residents, on-site staff, and the broader organization. Developing positive resident relationships, addressing service requests promptly, and fostering a sense of community involvement are all core components of the position. The role also requires recruiting, training, and motivating staff members to ensure they contribute effectively to the property’s success and uphold the values embodied in TCB’s mission.
This position demands an individual with strong leadership and communication skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently, and a solid understanding of affordable housing regulations and property management software tools such as Yardi. The Community Manager must also be prepared to handle emergency situations, participate in corporate committees, and attend various training sessions to stay current with industry best practices.
Physically, the role involves moving around the property, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in outdoor conditions, with some travel to local sites as needed. The company supports reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Educational qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years in residential property management or related fields such as hospitality or retail management, with at least two years in a supervisory or management capacity. Preferred industry certifications include COS, LIHTC, ARM(R), and CPMC(R).
Working at TCB offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid holidays and PTO accruals, employer contributions to health savings accounts, and more. The organization strives to cultivate an inclusive environment where team members feel valued and supported as they contribute to building stronger communities.
Overall, the Community Manager plays an essential role in ensuring that TCB’s properties are well-managed, financially sound, and foster a welcoming atmosphere where residents can enjoy safe and affordable housing options.
