The Community Disaster Program Manager position plays a critical role within the American Red Cross, focusing on disaster preparedness and response at a community level. This role is responsible for collaborating effectively with Volunteer Services and engaging community partners across assigned geographic areas, such as Bismarck or Minot, North Dakota. The manager ensures that local resources, facilities, and supply chains are ready, and identifies any gaps that need to be addressed to respond efficiently to disasters. Working directly with volunteers, this position ensures that communities are equipped to handle emergencies and disasters through coordinated preparedness programs. Additionally, regional disaster employees, including the Community Disaster Program Manager, are expected to deploy to disaster relief operations outside their region at least once a year, which supports skill development and broadens disaster response experience.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Minimum 5 years of related experience building and leading volunteer teams
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Ability to work outside regular hours including nights and weekends
- Ability to work daily within assigned geographic area to engage communities and support volunteers
- Must meet physical requirements to perform essential job functions
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in building, mobilizing, leading, and developing volunteer teams within social services programs
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills
- Proven ability to collaborate with diverse groups and manage multiple priorities
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to work outside regular hours including nights and weekends
Job Duties
- Empower volunteers by leading and supporting a diverse volunteer team responsible for disaster cycle services programming
- Lead the program by implementing disaster cycle services activities or specific functional activities
- Build mission capacity by developing and supporting disaster volunteers who are culturally and linguistically representative of the communities
- Engage community by preparing and mobilizing communities and partners to respond to disasters
- Manage in a matrix management environment by collaborating with internal employees and volunteers
- Act as the disaster subject matter expert within the assigned geographic area to maximize engagement and presence
- Initiate and coordinate disaster relief operations in alignment with the organization's disaster cycle services concept
