Job Description

This role is offered by a higher education institution committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community for its students. The college is dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion through active engagement and support of its student body. As an institution, the college values the contributions of a diverse student population and seeks to enhance student belonging and community engagement across campus. By offering a range of cultural and community-based programs, the college strives to create an enriching educational environment that supports student success and leadership development. The college invests in signature events such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations and the Cobber Winter Classic, highlighting its commitment to diversity and campus involvement. Employment in this role is typically full-time and offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, consistent with higher education staffing standards. The Student Belonging & Community Coordinator position plays a crucial role in advancing these institutional goals by coordinating student-centered belonging initiatives and providing primary advising to student leadership bodies. This individual acts as a key advisor to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission (DEIC), helping student leaders plan and implement culturally responsive and inclusive programming. These efforts encompass oversight of logistical elements including contracts, risk management, and budget administration related to DEIC activities. Additionally, the Coordinator is responsible for supporting campus-wide community programming that fosters inclusivity and celebrates diverse identities and traditions through events like Dia de los Muertos and Ramadan celebrations. Beyond their focus on DEIC, the Coordinator also serves student leaders within the Student Government Association (SGA), offering guidance on elections processes such as advising the Elections and Credentials Council and ensuring compliance with governing documents and institutional policies. This role also facilitates recruitment and onboarding of student leaders to help maintain a vibrant student government structure. Moreover, the Coordinator provides ongoing support for student organizations, connecting them with campus resources and collaborative opportunities to boost engagement. By encouraging inter-major program collaboration and serving as a liaison to the Office of Admissions, the Coordinator helps integrate student engagement efforts with broader institutional priorities. The Coordinator’s responsibilities extend to contributing to the Office of Student Engagement’s large-scale programs and initiatives, applying a curricular approach to program development, assessment, and continuous improvement. As a representative of the Office of Student Engagement at various campus and admissions events, the Coordinator reinforces the college’s mission and inclusion priorities while actively participating in committees and divisional projects. This multifaceted position offers an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion to make a significant impact on the campus climate and student experience. It demands excellent organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills to successfully manage programs, advise student leaders, and collaborate broadly across campus departments and student groups. If you are committed to creating a supportive, engaging, and inclusive campus culture, this role enables you to play a central part in shaping a dynamic and welcoming community for all students.
