Situated at 540 N Michigan Ave, this hotel boasts a prime location that attracts both leisure and business travelers seeking comfort, luxury, and convenience. Marriott International is a leader in the hospitality industry, dedicated to fostering inclusive environments where diversity and unique cultural backgrounds are celebrated. The company is committed to providing comprehensive career development opportunities and competitive compensation to its employees.
This position is a full-time, non-management role within the Food and Beverage and Culinary category, offering a competitive pay range of $27.55 to $28.30 per hour. The role primarily covers day and evening shifts and is located on-site at the hotel, not remote. The Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile has partnered with the Rouxbe Cooking School to provide culinary associates with engaging online training programs. These programs are designed to enhance the skills of culinary staff at all levels through a flexible, self-paced platform that offers visually appealing and practical lessons.
As a culinary associate, the individual will prepare special meals, substitute items when necessary, and regulate cooking temperatures using various kitchen appliances such as ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters. The role involves managing food storage processes, including thawing items correctly and maintaining accurate food logs. Additionally, the associate will oversee food quality and quantity, ensuring proper portion sizes, arrangement, and garnishing of dishes. Effective communication with the kitchen team and Food and Beverage service staff is essential to convey information about specials, out-of-stock items, and assistance required during busy periods.
The culinary associate also supports management in various employee-related activities, including hiring, training, scheduling, evaluation, and motivation. This role requires adherence to company policies and safety standards, reporting any maintenance issues or unsafe conditions promptly. Maintaining a professional appearance, upholding confidentiality, and protecting company assets are crucial aspects of the job. The associate must demonstrate excellent communication skills, foster positive working relationships, support teamwork, and anticipate guest needs to ensure a superior dining experience.
Physically, the role demands the ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods, along with performing tasks that involve bending, twisting, pulling, and lifting objects up to 25 pounds. The position also requires flexibility to perform additional reasonable duties as needed by supervisors.
Preferred qualifications include a technical, trade, or vocational school degree and at least three years of relevant culinary work experience. While no supervisory experience is required, the role encourages a proactive approach to personal and professional development. Marriott International is an equal opportunity employer that promotes a culture of inclusion and diversity, welcoming individuals from various backgrounds to contribute to their team.
