This opportunity is for a creative and skilled Baker based onsite at the Phoenix, AZ plant. The role centers on innovation and excellence in bakery product development, particularly focusing on batter and laminate dough products. As a valued team member, you will be responsible for developing innovative new products, refining existing recipes, and driving the scale-up of prototypes through to market-ready solutions with cost efficiency and quality as top priorities. This job requires a hands-on approach with benchtop baking duties and the ability to contribute both independently and collaboratively. You will lead plant trials, address manufacturing challenges, prepare detailed product documentation, and liaise with cross-functional departments such as Sales, Quality Assurance, and Purchasing to ensure that new product initiatives align with overall company goals.
The ideal candidate will bring at least seven years of commercial baking experience with a proven record in bakery product development from concept to commercialization. Formal training or certification from the American Institute of Baking, along with a degree in food science or a related field, is highly desirable. Strong communication skills and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes will be essential to succeed in this role. Job Duties
- Own the development, formulation, and build of new bakery products ensuring they meet company standards for quality taste and functionality
- Plan, execute, and oversee plant trials (sample runs) to evaluate the viability and scalability of new products in the manufacturing environment
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to address and resolve any issues that arise during trial runs
- Ensure successful transition from pilot scale to full-scale production
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive product documentation including vendor briefs, plant trial briefs, finished product specifications, ingredient lists, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Ensure all product documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and meets regulatory and quality standards
- Research new product ingredients and suppliers to source high-quality materials
- Conduct ingredient evaluations and quality assessments
- Work closely with Sales, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, and other departments to ensure alignment and support for new product initiatives
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on project status and resolve any issues that arise
- Manage multiple product development projects simultaneously ensuring timelines and milestones are met
- Utilize project management tools and techniques to track progress and coordinate activities
