Job Requirements

Minimum age 18
high school diploma or equivalent
completion of company orientation and food safety and sanitation training upon hire
ability to function in a fast-paced retail environment
ability to work attentively with customers
ability to perform department-specific tasks such as reaching, standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50-55 lbs depending on department)
ability to comply with food safety and sanitation standards
strong communication and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

Provides superior customer service
takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
answers customer questions regarding products
prepares, packages, and merchandises fresh product effectively
slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
assists in technical areas such as basic set-up and clean-up processes
uses suggestive selling techniques and basic product knowledge to meet customer needs and build department sales
cleans and sanitizes display cases
operates and maintains equipment properly
complies with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
complies with department and store operating procedures
records production and shrink to aid production planning (bakery)
assists in baking, frying, and decorating (bakery)
culls bakery products for poor quality and expiration dates
takes care of service counter customers (deli)
uses ordering system applications (deli)
performs inventory management processes as required (deli)
ensures catering orders are prepared and ready for customer pickup (deli)
performs all sanitation and maintenance tasks for deli slicers
serves and packages prepared foods at customer request
educates customers on preparation and reheating instructions of prepared foods
prepackages condiments for prepared food items
cuts, slices, dices, chops food in preparation for the chef
