The available position is for a Coffee Lead in the Coffee Shop department, a vital role in maintaining the department's high standards for product quality, freshness, and innovative offerings at competitive prices. This is a non-exempt position within a dynamic team environment, where customer satisfaction and employee cooperation are top priorities. The Coffee Lead works closely under the Coffee Shop Department Manager and other senior management overseeing store operations, perishables, food services, and wellness sectors.

The primary function of the Coffee Lead is to ensure that customers receive prompt, friendly, and efficient service. This includes greeting customers warmly, answering their requests, taking orders, and providing information about products. The role demands a customer-focused attitude, with efforts to learn customer names and personalize service. Additionally, the Coffee Lead supervises Coffee Shop Baristas, manages inventory by checking in and storing products, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, and assisting in food preparation and replenishment.

Core competencies necessary for success in this role include a growth mindset, professionalism, results orientation, and strong partnership skills. The role requires the ability to solve practical problems, perform arithmetic calculations, handle food safely, and complete diverse tasks in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting. Emphasis is put on teamwork, with responsibilities ranging from light supervisory duties such as assigning and reviewing work of direct reports, to working alongside co-workers to achieve customer satisfaction.

Physical demands involve occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds and the ability to perform activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, and standing for extended periods. Work conditions may include exposure to a cool environment, noise, vibrations, and cleaning chemicals, requiring adherence to safety standards and personal hygiene policies.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of similar or related experience
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations including fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Ability to file, post, and mail materials
  • Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly
  • Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions
  • Must adhere to company hygiene and dress standards
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store
  • Makes an effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible
  • Assists customers by escorting them to the products they’re looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call including taking product orders
  • Takes customer orders at the counter
  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
  • Handles food in a safe manner and ensures the work area is always clean and neat
