Job Description

Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District (Edinburg CISD) is a public school district located in Edinburg, Texas, dedicated to providing quality education and support services to its students and community. Edinburg CISD's commitment to excellence extends beyond academics to include comprehensive child nutrition services aimed at promoting student health and well-being. The Child Nutrition Department focuses on maintaining safe, clean, and efficient facilities that support the district's mission to foster a positive learning environment. The district is committed to equal opportunity employment and provides a nondiscriminatory environment for all employees and applicants regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age. As part of their Child Nutrition team, Edinburg CISD strives to uphold high standards of safety, sanitation, and efficiency to ensure that students receive nutritious meals in a clean and welcoming setting.

The Child Nutrition Custodian position at Edinburg CISD is a critical role responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the Child Nutrition Department's kitchen and dining areas. This role involves performing routine cleaning, sanitizing food preparation and storage areas, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The Custodian reports directly to the Child Nutrition Manager and works approximately 189 days a year with an hourly, non-exempt pay status. The wage range for this position is between $15.25 and $19.32 per hour. The custodian will be expected to work both indoors and outdoors, often dealing with physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying, and handling cleaning equipment and chemicals.

In this role, the custodian must maintain high standards of sanitation and personal hygiene and demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance. Key responsibilities include cleaning kitchen equipment, floor care such as waxing and buffing, managing waste and recycling, and restocking supplies according to proper procedures to avoid spoilage. The position requires operating a range of large and small custodial equipment, following safety guidelines, and working effectively both independently and as part of a team. The job demands physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work in environments exposed to various temperatures and cleaning chemicals.

Edinburg CISD emphasizes safety and professionalism and requires custodians to hold a current food handler's certificate issued by an appropriate agency. The ability to understand and follow school policies and procedures related to job performance and safety is essential. The custodian must also demonstrate good interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, coworkers, supervisors, and administrative personnel.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for individuals who are dependable, proactive, and committed to supporting the health and safety of students through excellent custodial care. The position supports the overall mission of Edinburg CISD in creating a healthy, clean, and orderly environment that contributes to student success and well-being.
