Job Description

The Club Sports Operations Work Assistant role is based out of the LaHaye Ice Center Skate Rental and offers part-time employment with a target hire date in June 2025. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the setup, execution, and teardown of club sport events involving various teams like lacrosse, hockey, volleyball, wrestling, and triathlon. The assistant will work independently with a high degree of judgment and discretion, assisting in game day operations which includes running the score clock, keeping score, public announcing, playing music, crowd control, and ticketing, among other responsibilities.

Further responsibilities include facility upkeep, such as cleaning locker rooms between uses and maintaining public areas to ensure a safe and pleasant venue for all participants and spectators. The assistant also contributes to LaHaye Ice Center operations by managing skate rentals, sharpening skates, and ensuring compliance with safety measures. This position requires teamwork with various stakeholders including the Assistant Director of Events and event graduate assistants to support seamless event operations. Embracing emerging technologies and industry best practices is encouraged to continually enhance the quality of event support provided. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in event operations or customer service preferred
  • ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
  • strong communication and public speaking skills
  • ability to operate event equipment including score clocks and sound systems
  • physical ability to perform cleaning and maintenance duties
  • availability to work flexible schedules including weekends
  • compliance with University nondiscrimination policies
  • willingness to support diverse sports program needs

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in event operations or customer service preferred
  • ability to work independently with good judgment and discretion

  • basic facility maintenance skills
  • experience with skate rental and sharpening equipment a plus

Job Duties

  • Provide support as directed by designated supervisor
  • work various roles pertaining to game day operations such as score clock operator, scoresheet handler, music operator, public address announcing, crowd control, ticketing
  • assist in setting up, running and tearing down events
  • perform walkthroughs of facilities to ensure cleanliness and upkeep
  • clean locker rooms between uses
  • clean and maintain public spaces including lobbies, concourse, and bathrooms
  • work with the general public to manage skate rentals and ensure customer satisfaction
  • sharpen rental skates to a quality code
  • ensure public safety regarding skate use
  • perform other duties as assigned supporting Club Sports teams such as lacrosse, hockey, volleyball, wrestling, triathlon
  • stay current with emerging technologies and industry benchmarks
  • work effectively as a team member embracing the University mission
