The role of Porter & Barback at Sevilla is crucial in supporting the nightclub's operations by ensuring that all bar and club facilities are impeccably maintained, properly stocked, and clean. This position is pivotal in creating an inviting atmosphere for guests by proactively managing cleanliness and supply levels at all times. The Porter & Barback plays a key role in the preparation and upkeep of the club’s various areas including the Tapas bar, Patio, Club main area, and washrooms. While the position is not authorized to engage in security or guest relations issues—those matters being strictly reserved for management—the employee aids in enhancing guest experiences by assisting bartenders, VIP servers, and maintaining the ambiance expected at Sevilla.

The responsibilities of this position extend beyond simple cleaning tasks; it involves regular inspections to ensure compliance with Sevilla’s standards, supporting special event setups and closings, and facilitating smooth club operations by stocking bars and handling supplies. The Porter & Barback actively contributes to the sales efforts by encouraging additional sales to guests when appropriate, assisting servers, and maintaining team cohesion with a positive attitude and approachability. This role also demands vigilant observation to prevent underage drinking and requires staff to promptly report any maintenance or safety concerns.

Staff members in this position must be familiar with Sevilla’s operational best practices, actively participate in ongoing training, and comply fully with the uniform and conduct policies. The role demands physical stamina, including the ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds and the capacity to stand and work without sitting for extended periods. Working in an environment with loud music, dim and dynamic club lighting, this role requires high energy and a commitment to teamwork. The Porter & Barback is integral in making sure the club is ready to provide every guest with an enjoyable and safe experience, reinforcing Sevilla's reputation as a premier nightlife destination.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years related nightclub experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • ability to read, analyze, and interpret company operations, safety, finance, and human resource documents
  • ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from guests
  • ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions
  • working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and internet
  • email communication skills
  • working knowledge or ability to learn Aloha
  • must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
  • must be able to regularly work without sitting for period of up to four hours
  • ability to work in a noisy, dimly lit environment with disco and club lighting

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Use the club opening and closing checklists on a nightly basis to track completion of opening and closing procedures
  • create the best guest experience and cultivate customer return
  • ensure the Tapas bar, Patio, Club, and Club washrooms are clean, free from safety hazards, properly stocked, and well maintained at all times
  • conduct frequent club inspections for cleanliness and safety
  • stock bars with ice and supplies as necessary
  • assist bartenders with work tasks as requested
  • assist the VIP cocktail servers with all VIP tables and additional tasks as requested
  • maintain clean and presentable work area
  • encourage additional sales to the guest when possible
  • assist with closing procedures for the cocktail servers and bartenders when necessary
  • ensure every guest is having an enjoyable and memorable experience at Sevilla
  • watch for underage drinking at all times
  • immediately report any maintenance, security, and/or safety issues or concerns to a manager
  • recommend process improvements to a manager and participate in implementing approved process improvements as appropriate
  • inform management of any additional resources needed if overwhelmed and cannot give service to Sevilla expectation
  • always keep a positive work attitude and friendly demeanor with the ability to work well with coworkers and as a team
  • demonstrate knowledge of all best practices applicable to job code
  • complete all assigned training tests and courses
  • be aware of all details on the nightclub player's list
  • adhere to uniform expectation for the position per Sevilla handbook and company policy
  • perform other duties as assigned by a manager
  • clock in and out for each work shift properly
  • ensure all breaks are taken per company policy
  • take a meal period when 6 or more hours are worked
  • attend and participate in all mandatory staff meetings
  • report suspicions of harassment, discrimination, retaliation and/or safety issues immediately to manager
