Employees are encouraged to actively participate in identifying and resolving service issues, fostering a work environment that promotes collaboration and continuous improvement. The Pokagon Band’s commitment to service excellence is reflected in every facet of its operations and is a cornerstone of its mission to support its Tribal Citizens and maintain cultural integrity.
This role is for a Facilities Housekeeper, a vital position responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of all Tribal buildings and properties. The Facilities Housekeeper will perform a wide range of cleaning and maintenance duties that contribute to the safety, appearance, and functionality of the community's facilities. Duties include routine maintenance of community spaces like halls, lounges, restrooms, and residential housing. The role involves heavy cleaning tasks such as floor care—sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, sealing, finishing, and polishing—as well as cleaning glass, mirrors, and furniture. The facility housekeeper also handles waste management, including the disposal of sharps containers using approved methods.
The Facilities Housekeeper serves an important role in supporting community events and meetings by assisting with setup and maintenance, ensuring facilities are safe and presentable. This position requires adherence to safety protocols and the ability to monitor building security after hours. Minor equipment and plumbing repairs may be part of daily tasks along with coordination with lead staff for larger repairs. Applicants must have a strong sense of service and experience in janitorial or housekeeping roles. A valid driver's license is required to operate Band vehicles for tasks such as delivering air conditioners or transporting supplies.
This position demands physical stamina and adaptability, requiring frequent bending, lifting, and equipment operation. A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory. The environment is a general office setting with typical lighting and temperature, but also includes community facilities that require local travel as needed. The Facilities Housekeeper role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for Tribal members and staff, supporting the broader mission of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi to serve its people with dignity, respect, and pride. The role contributes directly to the positive experience of all who use the Tribal facilities, embodying the Band’s commitment to quality service and occupational health and safety.
