Job Description

About: The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) is a prominent government agency dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health services to the community. As an established institution, OMH is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for its patients and staff. Operating across multiple facilities, OMH employs a wide range of professionals who work collaboratively to promote mental well-being, recovery, and dignity for those in need. This agency not only prioritizes patient care but also emphasizes employee development and offers a robust benefits package to ensure the welfare and satisfaction of its workforce.

The Cleaner role at OMH is a vital position that directly impacts the health and safety of both patients and staff. This position primarily involves maintaining cleanliness in patient care areas, including bathrooms, dining rooms, corridors, and stairwells. Cleaners at OMH are responsible for a variety of physically demanding tasks, such as washing walls and floors, polishing furniture, and ensuring that all assigned areas remain hygienic at all times. The job requires careful attention to infection control protocols, including safely handling and disposing of waste and cleaning up bodily fluids while wearing personal protective equipment as necessary.

This role does not require formal education or previous experience, but it does demand physical stamina and the ability to understand and carry out written or verbal instructions accurately. This position is essential to creating a therapeutic and clean environment that supports patient recovery and overall well-being. OMH values employees in this role for their contribution to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety that are crucial to the organization's mission.

Employment with OMH provides not only the opportunity to be part of a meaningful cause but also includes access to a generous benefits package. Employees enjoy comprehensive health coverage, tuition assistance, paid time off, and retirement programs which collectively foster a supportive work environment with opportunities for personal and professional growth. Background checks and, in some cases, additional credential verifications are a part of the hiring process, reflecting OMH's commitment to safety and compliance.
