The Clara Maass Medical Center, a part of RWJBarnabas Health, is currently seeking a part-time Cleaner (Union) to join the Environmental Services department. This position is designated for the evening shift, from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and offers an hourly pay range of $18.91 to $19.98, reflecting the candidate's education, skills, and experience. The role is vital in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene standards required in a busy medical environment to ensure patient safety and comfort.
Under the supervision of a Department of Environmental Services Supervisor or Manager, the Cleaner will be responsible for cleaning and supplying patient rooms, nursing stations, ancillary areas, and other designated spaces following established procedures. This work is essential to infection control and overall patient wellbeing, requiring the use of various cleaning tools, chemicals, and equipment. The Cleaner must be able to manage physical tasks such as standing for long periods, lifting and pushing weights up to 50 pounds, and must exhibit strong interpersonal skills to work effectively both individually and as part of a team.
Candidates must have knowledge of infection control procedures and be capable of following oral and written instructions accurately. Experience with commonly used cleaning tools such as mops, floor waxes, and scouring pads is required. While a high school diploma or GED is preferred, it is not mandatory. This role also demands flexibility, including working some weekends and holidays to meet the department's needs.

Job Duties
- Clean assigned areas by dusting and damp wiping all furnishings, walls, and equipment pertaining to assignment
- sweep and mop floors with designated cleaning solutions and disinfectants to prevent the spread of disease and maintain floor care
- use the appropriate cloths, chemicals, and vacuum cleaner to dust windowsills, blinds, floors, carpets, furniture, and equipment in an orderly fashion
- scour and polish sinks, tubs, showers, mirrors, and other equipment
- replenish supplies of soap, towels, and other dispensable items
- gather and dispose of trash, wash wastebaskets and large refuse containers, and reline with plastic bags
- operate machines and equipment with some mechanical aptitude required
