Job Description

Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES is a prominent educational agency that serves nine school districts across the New York State counties of Monroe and Orleans. The districts supported include Brockport, Churchville-Chili, Gates Chili, Greece, Hilton, Holley, Kendall, Spencerport, and Wheatland-Chili. This position falls under Operations and Maintenance, specifically within Custodial and Cleaning services. Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES is currently recruiting for the role of Cleaner, classified under the Civil Service title "Cleaner (Labor)." The position offers a pay scale of $16.25 per hour along with a $0.75 shift differential when applicable. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm.

The Cleaner’s primary responsibility is to maintain cleanliness and sanitation across all Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES locations. This includes general cleaning of buildings and grounds with a focus on ensuring a safe, hygienic, and pleasant environment for students, staff, and visitors. The role requires diligence, attention to detail, and the ability to operate independently while also functioning well as part of a team. The Cleaner is expected to be dressed in approved uniform and ready to begin their shift at 3:00 pm daily.

Typical duties involve removing and disposing of trash, collecting recyclables, disinfecting restrooms, floors, sanitary fixtures, and drinking fountains, as well as cleaning life safety equipment such as eye wash stations and safety showers. The Cleaner ensures that hallways, bathrooms, classrooms, shops, and isolation rooms are properly cleaned and disinfected, including door handles, student desks, and chairs. The position also requires the upkeep of floors through dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming carpets and mats using floor or backpack units. Additionally, the Cleaner is responsible for conference room maintenance including setup and tear down, moving furniture or equipment as required within or between buildings, and cleaning windows and mirrors.

Additional responsibilities include delivering pandemic supplies and packages such as UPS deliveries, complying with local laws regarding the disposal of trash and hazardous waste, and promptly reporting any major repairs to supervisors. The role requires technology proficiency to manage work orders and communications effectively. Preferred candidates will have experience in building cleaning and maintenance tasks as well as the capability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team while using cleaning supplies and equipment economically. This role is essential in supporting the facility operations and contributing positively to the health and safety standards at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES campuses.

  • Preferred experience in building cleaning and related activities including the ability to use supplies and equipment economically and efficiently
  • Ability to work as a team member as well as independently with motivation and judgement to complete all assigned tasks

Job Duties

  • Remove and dispose of trash into an exterior dumpster
  • Collect recyclables and place in correct receptacles
  • Cleaning and disinfecting restroom fixtures, floors, sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains
  • Cleaning of life safety equipment including eye wash stations and safety showers
  • Cleaning of all hallways, bathrooms, classrooms, shops and isolation rooms - disinfecting door handles, student desks and chairs
  • Maintain floors including dusting, sweeping and mopping, vacuuming of carpets, floor matting, window ledges, using floor or backpack units
  • Conference room clean including room setup or tear down, refreshment setup, or returns
  • Move furniture or equipment as required within or between buildings and/or as directed by the Director of Operations and Maintenance
  • Clean windows exterior and interior, classroom windows, mirrors etc
  • Delivering pandemic supplies and UPS
  • Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste/bio hazardous waste
  • Performs other related duties as requested by the Director of Operations and Maintenance
  • Report major repairs needed promptly to the Working Foreman or an e-mail to the Director of Operations and Maintenance
  • Technology proficient
  • Experience in project care and maintenance on equipment
