Job Description
Performance Foodservice is a leading broadline foodservice distributor that plays a pivotal role in supporting diverse local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts, the company is committed to building strong relationships with its customers by providing valuable advice on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and strategic planning. As part of Performance Food Group (PFG), Performance Foodservice is recognized for not only delivering high-quality food products but also for empowering independent restaurant owners to achieve their business goals. The company fosters a culture of inclusivity, respect, and recognition while offering abundant growth opportunities within the essential food distribution sector.
The CDL-B Driver role at Performance Foodservice is fundamental to the company’s mission of ensuring a smooth and efficient food supply chain across the country. This position requires professional drivers to operate tractor-trailers or straight trucks on various routes, including intrastate and interstate local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes, facilitating the timely and safe delivery of food and food-related products. Drivers act as the face of the company, responsible not only for transporting goods in excellent condition but also for cultivating positive relationships with customers through excellent service and communication.
Employment in this role is full-time with a five-day workweek, primarily involving dispatching between midnight and 6 a.m. The pay starts at $210 per day or more depending on the route components and includes a competitive $4000 sign-on bonus. Performance Foodservice values safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction, ensuring drivers adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies strictly. Responsibilities include conducting pre- and post-trip safety inspections, ensuring cargo is properly loaded and secured, accurately completing all delivery documentation, unloading and organizing products at customer locations, and handling cash or checks where applicable.
Drivers also perform equipment maintenance tasks such as keeping trailers and tractors clean and secure, documenting hours of service according to federal and state requirements, and supporting warehouse operations like loading dock upkeep. The role requires physical endurance as drivers must lift and handle product cases weighing from 10 to 90 pounds using equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates. Through these efforts, CDL-B Drivers contribute significantly to maintaining Performance Foodservice’s reputation for reliability and operational excellence in the food distribution industry.
