Job Description
Performance Foodservice is a leading broadline distributor within the foodservice industry, operating under Performance Food Group (PFG). The company has established itself as a trusted partner to a diverse range of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a dedicated team comprising sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and various other experts, Performance Foodservice goes beyond just delivering food products. Their team works closely with customers to offer valuable advice on improving operational efficiency, menu development, product selection, and strategic operational improvements. This holistic approach enables Performance Foodservice to not only provide quality products but also actively support independent restaurant owners and other foodservice operators in achieving their business objectives and dreams.
Performance Foodservice emphasizes a culture of inclusivity, safety, and respect, offering competitive compensation and benefits packages that include Day 1 Health and Wellness Benefits, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off among others. The company also prioritizes growth opportunities, providing employees the chance to advance while contributing to a critical sector of America’s food distribution network. The working environment fosters a culture of rewards and recognition, ensuring that all team members feel valued and motivated.
The CDL-B Driver position is a vital role within Performance Foodservice's logistics and operations team. Drivers in this role fulfill an essential function in the country’s food supply chain by ensuring timely and secure delivery of food and related products to customers. As the face of the company during deliveries, CDL-B Drivers build and maintain strong customer relationships while adhering strictly to safety and regulatory standards.
This position involves operating a tractor trailer or straight truck on varied routes, including intrastate and interstate, local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle runs, overnight shifts, and drive-and-drop routes. Drivers are responsible for safe transportation and unloading of products, completing all necessary safety inspections and paperwork, and maintaining compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. These professionals also handle customer interactions professionally, address any delivery issues promptly, and collaborate as effective team members within the organization.
The role specifically requires drivers to perform pre-trip and post-trip safety checks on tractors, trailers, and trucks, ensure loads are properly secured, and verify shipment contents against invoices. Drivers must also be capable of handling freight of varying weights using equipment such as hand trucks and lift gates. They prepare delivery documentation accurately, collect payments when necessary, and return any customer returns safely. Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the vehicle and loading dock area is also part of daily duties.
Given the position’s critical nature, candidates must demonstrate a commitment to safety, compliance, and customer service. Performance Foodservice supports its workforce through comprehensive training, safety protocols, and a supportive management team dedicated to employee development. The CDL-B Driver position offers a competitive daily wage starting at $210 or more depending on route components, a $4,000 sign-on bonus, and a five-day workweek with dispatching primarily scheduled between midnight and 6 a.m. This role offers stability, growth, and the opportunity to be part of a company that values its employees and customers alike.
