As a Class B City Driver, the incumbent will be responsible for safely operating a commercial vehicle primarily for the pickup and delivery of general freight within city limits. Responsibilities include loading and unloading cargo, securing freight for transportation, conducting vehicle inspections for safety and compliance, and maintaining accurate records as mandated by federal and state regulations. The role requires adherence to all company policies and legal requirements concerning commercial vehicle operation, including hazardous materials transportation where applicable. Candidates must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting, pulling, and pushing freight. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year driving experience approximately 50,000 miles
  • Ability to pass PITT OHIO driving test
  • Valid driver’s license from state of residence
  • Hazardous material and tank endorsement or obtain within 90 days
  • Clean driving record with no major violations or suspensions in last 36 months
  • Pass Department of Transportation physical
  • Consent to pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • Consent to a ten-year work history check
  • Complete application in entirety
  • Register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse if CDL driver
  • Demonstrate stable work history and positive cooperative attitude
  • Comply with all federal, state and local transportation regulations

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year experience as a driver of a commercial or non-commercial motor vehicle similar to that used by PITT OHIO
  • Ability to pass a PITT OHIO driving test administered by an approved trainer or designee
  • Possess or obtain hazardous material and tank endorsements within 90 days of employment (except for non-CDL drivers)
  • Hold only one valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence
  • No record of license suspension or revocation within the last 36 months
  • No citations or convictions related to major driving violations in the past 36 months
  • Must pass a Department of Transportation physical examination
  • Consent to pre-employment drug screen and negative controlled substance test results from prior employers
  • Demonstrate a stable work history, good work ethic, dependability, and positive attitude

Job Duties

  • Drive a commercial vehicle safely while picking up and delivering general freight
  • Load and unload truck either individually or with assistance of dockworkers
  • Use mechanical freight handling equipment where available and appropriate
  • Perform frequent lifting, pulling, pushing and carrying of freight
  • Secure freight through strapping or other methods
  • Inspect vehicle for defects and safe operating conditions as required by law and company policy
  • Comply with all federal requirements regarding transportation of hazardous materials
  • Maintain records required for compliance with state and federal regulations including driver logs
  • Perform duties in accordance with company policies and comply with all applicable regulations
