Job Description

Performance Foodservice, the broadline distribution division of Performance Food Group (PFG), plays a vital role in the supply chain of foodservice operations across the United States. The company maintains enduring and collaborative relationships with a diverse clientele that includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. Unlike large, impersonal distributors, Performance Foodservice offers a hands-on approach through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other specialized experts who work directly with customers to enhance their operational efficiency and menu offerings. The company is committed not just to delivering quality food products but also to fostering success for independent restaurant owners and foodservice providers by supporting them with expert advice on product selection, operational strategy, and menu development. This customer-centric philosophy has positioned Performance Foodservice as a trusted partner in the food industry.

This driver trainee position represents an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to launch their careers in the logistics and transportation sector within the food distribution industry. The role is an entry-level driver training job focused on developing skills required to operate tractor trailers or straight trucks safely and efficiently. Trainees will undergo a structured training program designed to impart both theoretical and hands-on experience in driving local, overnight, shuttle, and over-the-road (OTR) routes. These routes can be intrastate or interstate depending on the needs of the business and the trainee’s progress. The position is full-time and scheduled from Monday through Friday, with dispatch occurring early in the morning between 2 and 5 am. The role offers a competitive annual salary range of $60,000 to $65,000, paid bi-weekly.

In this role, the driver trainee is expected to complete comprehensive training, including classroom instruction and ride-alongs with experienced drivers. They will assist and gradually take on responsibilities such as vehicle inspections, loading and unloading products, securing freight, reviewing customer invoices, and maintaining the required paperwork meticulously. Following all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies for safety is a critical responsibility. The trainee will also learn to communicate and interact professionally with customers, vendors, and colleagues, maintaining Performance Foodservice’s high standards for customer service. As the trainee gains experience, their duties will expand to include delivering food products to a variety of customers efficiently and safely. The role emphasizes teamwork within the company and strives to maintain a respectful, safe, and inclusive working environment.

Besides competitive pay, this position includes extensive benefits from day one, such as health and wellness coverage, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K with employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and additional perks. These benefits, coupled with the opportunity for career advancement within a well-established company, make this role highly desirable for motivated individuals passionate about starting a career in foodservice logistics and freight transportation. Performance Foodservice’s commitment to providing a rewarding and inclusive workplace culture further supports personal and professional growth for all employees.
