The role is an entry-level driver training job focused on developing skills required to operate tractor trailers or straight trucks safely and efficiently. Trainees will undergo a structured training program designed to impart both theoretical and hands-on experience in driving local, overnight, shuttle, and over-the-road (OTR) routes. These routes can be intrastate or interstate depending on the needs of the business and the trainee’s progress. The position is full-time and scheduled from Monday through Friday, with dispatch occurring early in the morning between 2 and 5 am. The role offers a competitive annual salary range of $60,000 to $65,000, paid bi-weekly.

In this role, the driver trainee is expected to complete comprehensive training, including classroom instruction and ride-alongs with experienced drivers. They will assist and gradually take on responsibilities such as vehicle inspections, loading and unloading products, securing freight, reviewing customer invoices, and maintaining the required paperwork meticulously. Following all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies for safety is a critical responsibility. The trainee will also learn to communicate and interact professionally with customers, vendors, and colleagues, maintaining Performance Foodservice’s high standards for customer service. As the trainee gains experience, their duties will expand to include delivering food products to a variety of customers efficiently and safely.
