Job Description
Performance Foodservice is a leading broadline distributor dedicated to supporting a diverse range of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. As part of Performance Food Group (PFG), the company stands out through its commitment to providing not only quality food products but also expert support through a knowledgeable team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other specialists. These professionals work closely with customers to offer advice on improving operational efficiencies, menu development, product selection, and overall business strategies, helping independent restaurant owners achieve their goals and dreams. The company fosters a culture that values diversity, inclusivity, and equal employment opportunities, ensuring a respectful workplace that supports all employees regardless of their background or identity.
The position available is an entry-level Driver Trainee role that offers an exceptional opportunity for individuals interested in beginning a career in commercial driving within the foodservice distribution industry. This role is essential in supporting America’s food distribution system and offers competitive pay ranging from $60,000 to $65,000 annually with bi-weekly paychecks. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with dispatch times between 2 and 5 am, aligning with the company's commitment to reliable and timely delivery services.
As a Driver Trainee, the individual will be responsible for learning to operate tractor trailers or straight trucks both intrastate and interstate on various routes including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. The role emphasizes safety and compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies. The trainee will participate in training programs such as the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, working closely with a driver trainer to gain practical experience on delivery routes. Responsibilities include performing safety checks on vehicles, inspecting trailers and freight for secure loading, accurately completing delivery paperwork, unloading and verifying orders, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
This role requires strong communication skills as the trainee will interact with customers, vendors, and coworkers in a professional manner to ensure a positive customer service experience. Teamwork is a key component, as the driver trainee functions as part of the broader department and company initiatives. The position offers opportunities for growth and development within a company that values recognition, rewards, and respect among its workforce.
Performance Foodservice also offers a comprehensive benefits package from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. The company’s safe and inclusive environment reinforces its commitment to employee welfare and professional development, making this role an ideal starting point for candidates eager to build a career in transportation and logistics within the food distribution sector.
