This position is for a Food and Food Service Delivery Driver who plays a crucial role in the country's food supply chain. Delivery drivers are more than just drivers; they are the face of Core-Mark, building lasting relationships with customers by ensuring timely and safe delivery of products. The role involves operating tractor-trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop routes. Drivers must adhere strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, maintaining the safety and quality standards expected of Core-Mark. This is a Monday through Friday role with working hours from 2:00 AM to 12:30 PM, reflecting the early morning logistics involved in food distribution.

In this role, drivers are responsible for performing all required safety checks, including pre- and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers. They ensure that the trailers are loaded correctly and that freight is securely fastened. Drivers must report any safety hazards or maintenance needs promptly and perform damage control when necessary. They handle customer orders with professionalism, verifying deliveries with customers, obtaining signatures, and managing payments when required. Beyond just delivery, drivers assist with loading and unloading goods, equipment maintenance, housekeeping duties at the loading dock, and completing all necessary documentation accurately.

The ideal candidate for this role possesses a valid CDL-A license and is at least 21 years old, with a clean driving record over the past three years. They have at least six months of route delivery experience in a commercial motor vehicle and meet all applicable state licensing or certification requirements. Successful candidates must pass a post-offer drug test, criminal background check, and road test, and either have or be able to obtain a DOT health card. Physical capability to hand-lift and use equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to move product cases weighing between 10 and 90 pounds is also essential.

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections
  • Inspect tractor/truck and trailer to meet safety standards
  • Report safety hazards and required repairs
  • Follow DOT regulations and company driving policies
  • Drive and deliver customer orders on predetermined routes
  • Unload products and transport them to designated areas
  • Verify delivery with customers and obtain signatures
  • Collect payments where required
  • Load customer returns and secure trailer doors
  • Complete daily records of hours and paperwork accurately
  • Perform general housekeeping duties to keep trailers and docks clean
  • Secure all equipment and paperwork at end of shift
  • Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers
  • Perform related duties as assigned
