The role of a Food and Food Service Delivery Driver at Cheney Brothers plays a crucial part in the nation’s food supply chain. The role includes dedicated routes following training, with dispatch times early in the morning, generally between 4 am and 5 am.

Delivery drivers at Cheney Brothers have the essential responsibility of operating tractor trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate runs, including local routes, over-the-road journeys, shuttles, and overnight deliveries. They ensure the efficient and safe delivery of food items while adhering strictly to Department of Transportation regulations and company safety protocols. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 12+ months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attains or has valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
  • Prefer 1+ years foodservice distribution industry experience
  • Onboard computer and electronic log system experience
  • Hand-held point of delivery scanning system experience
  • Customer service-related work experience

Job Duties

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company
  • Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
