The Driver, CDL-A position at Core-Mark is an essential role that contributes directly to the efficient and timely delivery of food and food-related products throughout local and interstate routes. The role primarily involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks to perform safe deliveries in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Drivers support America’s food distribution system by ensuring customer orders are delivered accurately and punctually, embodying professionalism when interacting with customers, vendors, and team members. This role operates on a Monday to Friday schedule with early dispatch times, offering competitive pay ranging from $75,000 to $80,000 annually alongside a $6,000 sign-on bonus and $1,000 annual retention bonus.
Key responsibilities include performing thorough pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of vehicles and trailers, adhering to all DOT regulations and company policies regarding safe driving, loading and unloading products, verifying shipments, handling paperwork accurately, and maintaining vehicle cleanliness and security. Drivers may also be required to collect payments and handle customer returns, ensuring that all procedures meet company standards. This role requires physical ability to handle freight weighing between 10 to 90 pounds using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid CDL-A license
- Minimum 1 year tractor/trailer driving experience
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Valid DOT health card or ability to obtain one
- Ability to hand-lift freight weighing from 10 to 90 pounds
- Compliance with all DOT and company safety policies
- Ability to work Monday through Friday early morning shifts
- Ability to follow instructions and perform assigned duties responsibly
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent
- 1+ years tractor/trailer driving experience
- Valid CDL-A license
- Must be 21+ years of age
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- Attain or have valid current DOT health card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate, and other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight
- Ability to communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers
- Basic understanding of DOT regulations and safety standards
Job Duties
- Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- Immediately report all safety hazards and inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of loaded products
- Move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
- Drive and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule and unload products into designated storage areas
- Perform damage control checks on items, scan and contact supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
- Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
- Collect money where required
- Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
- Ensure that tractor, trailer, and freight are locked and secured
- Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
- Perform daily record of hours of service and enter in log according to Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
- Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock area
- Secure equipment and complete all necessary paperwork at shift end
- Perform other related duties as assigned
