The Driver, Hourly CDL-A role is instrumental in maintaining the food supply chain by ensuring that food and food service products are delivered safely, timely, and in excellent condition to customers. In this position, drivers are the face of Core-Mark, forging strong and lasting relationships with customers. The role requires driving a tractor trailer or straight truck under a variety of routes, including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. Drivers are responsible not only for timely deliveries but also for conducting essential vehicle inspections, ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and maintaining safety standards.
The position offers a competitive sign-on bonus of $6,000, with component pay up to $3,600 bi-weekly, in addition to monthly and annual bonuses. It also features a beneficial four-day workweek and a 5:00 AM start time, accommodating drivers’ needs while supporting operational efficiency. This role involves multiple critical duties such as performing pre-and post-trip safety checks, validating freight loading and securing, managing accurate paperwork, unloading and loading goods, conducting damage control, and maintaining communication with supervisors and customers.
Core-Mark ensures that drivers comply with all state licensing and federal DOT health card requirements, and it requires an exemplary safety record supported by clean motor vehicle reports over the last three years. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent
- Minimum 6 months commercial driving experience
- Valid CDL-A license
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Compliance with state licensing and certification requirements
- Clean motor vehicle report for the past 3 years
- Successful completion of post offer drug test and criminal background check
- Successful completion of road test
- Valid current or ability to obtain DOT health card
- Physical ability to hand-lift and use equipment to move and stack freight
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent
- 6+ months commercial driving experience
- Valid CDL-A
- Must be 21+ years of age
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
- Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- Pass road test
- Attain or have valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
- Product generally ranges between 10-35 pounds and up to approximately 60-90 pounds depending on location
Job Duties
- Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
- Inspects tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and takes appropriate action as needed
- Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
- Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- Immediately reports all safety hazards
- Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- Performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of products loaded
- Completes accurate and legible paperwork associated with freight
- Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
- Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
- Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
- Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
- Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
- Collects money (cash or checks) where required
- Loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors
- Ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured
- Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
- Unloads all equipment, materials and removes trash from trailers as required
- Completes daily record of hours of service and enters in log according to Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
- Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clear and clean as required
- Secures all equipment and completes necessary paperwork at the end of shift
- Performs other related duties as assigned
