Job Description

Performance Foodservice, the broadline distributor arm of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading supplier dedicated to delivering high-quality food products and exceptional service to a diverse range of customers. These include independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries, forming a vital part of America’s food distribution system. The company thrives on building close, collaborative relationships with its clients through a passionate team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts who provide comprehensive advice on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and other strategic initiatives. This collaborative approach underscores PFG’s commitment not only to providing delicious food but also to supporting independent restaurateurs and foodservice operators in achieving their business goals and dreams.

The role offered is an entry-level driver trainee position, specifically designed to introduce and develop the skills necessary for safely and efficiently operating tractor trailers or straight trucks within intrastate and interstate routes. This position involves delivering a variety of food and food-related products to a broad customer base including local, shuttle, and overnight routes. Offering a competitive salary range of $80,000 to $100,000 annually, this full-time role involves a 4 to 5-day work week with required availability from Monday through Saturday. The company fosters a safe and inclusive environment, emphasizing a culture of rewards, recognition, and respect.

This role is pivotal for those starting a career in professional driving within the foodservice distribution industry. The trainee will participate in the comprehensive PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, designed to impart the core competencies in vehicle operation, safety inspections, route execution, and customer service. Responsibilities include assisting and learning alongside a driver trainer, performing safety and equipment inspections, assisting with loading and unloading freight, and ensuring timely and secure deliveries. PFG prioritizes strict adherence to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety guidelines to maintain the highest operational standards.

Beyond the operational duties, the driver trainee is expected to represent PFG professionally in all customer and vendor interactions, thereby enhancing the company’s reputation for excellent service. This role also offers career growth and development opportunities within an essential sector of the food supply chain. Benefits begin from day one, including health and wellness options, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off, reflecting PFG’s dedication to employee wellbeing and growth.

This position is ideal for individuals motivated to learn and grow within the transportation and foodservice industry, with a clear path for advancement as skills and experience increase. Candidates will be supported every step of the way through structured training, ongoing mentorship, and a collaborative team culture focused on success and mutual respect.
