Job Description
Performance Foodservice, the broadline distributor arm of Performance Food Group, is a prominent player in the foodservice distribution industry. The company has carved out a distinctive niche by fostering strong relationships with a diverse clientele that includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. This established company prides itself on not just delivering quality food products but also on the exceptional level of service they provide. Their team comprises sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and various experts who work collaboratively to guide their customers in improving operational processes, menu development, product selection, and other strategic areas of their business. They focus on delivering not only delicious food but also comprehensive support designed to help independent restaurant owners and other foodservice clients succeed and grow their businesses.
This role is an entry-level driver trainee position within Performance Foodservice, designed for individuals aiming to start or build a career in commercial driving within the food distribution sector. The position offers a competitive pay range of $80,000 to $100,000 annually, with a work schedule typically consisting of 4 to 5-day workweeks and requires availability from Monday through Saturday. One of the significant benefits of the job includes day-one health and wellness benefits, as well as additional perks such as an employee stock purchase plan, 401K with employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. The company emphasizes a safe and inclusive working environment, fostering a culture that values rewards, recognition, and respect among its employees.
As a driver trainee, the successful candidate will participate in the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, where they will learn the essential skills needed to drive tractor-trailers or straight trucks both intrastate and interstate. Training routes may include local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes to deliver various food and related products to customers. The trainee will be expected to complete all routes while strictly adhering to company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, ensuring safety and compliance.
Throughout the training, the driver trainee will work closely with a driver trainer, assisting in executing deliveries and following their instructions meticulously. Safety is paramount, with responsibilities including pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers, checking for secure freight loading, and reporting any safety hazards or maintenance needs immediately. Accurate completion of all paperwork related to freight and delivery is also a critical component of the role.
In addition to driving duties, trainees will engage in unloading products, managing customer returns, performing damage checks, and ensuring proper securement of trailers. Daily logs of hours of service and other regulatory paperwork must be maintained meticulously. The position also requires general housekeeping duties around the trailer and loading dock areas to maintain cleanliness and order.
Performance Foodservice values a diverse workforce and is committed to equal employment opportunities. The company encourages applicants from all backgrounds to apply, emphasizing their dedication to inclusivity and fairness in hiring practices.
