This opportunity is for the role of Driver, Hourly CDL-A, located in Hayward, California, offering a competitive salary of $29.00 per hour during training, with a transition to a performance-based pay system rewarding every stop, load, and mile driven. This position operates under a union-represented setting, covered by a collective bargaining agreement that affords eligible employees access to comprehensive health and welfare benefits such as medical, prescription, dental, vision, and life insurance through the Teamsters Managed Health Care Trust. Additionally, pension benefits are provided through the Teamsters Pension Plan with contributions from the employer. Employees with qualifying medical insurance may opt to participate in an annuity plan, offering flexibility in benefits selection. In this role, the Driver plays a vital part in securing the food supply chain by ensuring timely, safe delivery of products to customers, reflecting the company’s dedication to excellent service and operational excellence. The Driver, using a tractor trailer or straight truck, will perform local, intrastate, interstate, shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop deliveries. A typical schedule includes Monday through Friday shifts with dispatch times between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM. The position demands responsibility in adhering to Department of Transportation regulations, maintaining vehicle safety and compliance, conducting pre- and post-trip inspections, and effectively interacting with customers and co-workers. The Driver is expected to handle product loading and unloading, perform accurate delivery documentation, verify deliveries through customer acknowledgment, and manage secure load handling and returns.

Key responsibilities also include maintaining clean and safe operating environments, completing daily logs in line with federal and state requirements, and serving as a professional representative of Core-Mark during all customer interactions. This role is essential in strengthening customer relationships and supporting the company’s mission to provide dependable and customer-centered delivery services. The ideal candidate will have a valid CDL-A license, proven experience in tractor-trailer driving, knowledge of food service distribution, and proficiency with technology like onboard computers and scanning systems. Physical requirements include the ability to handle freight weighing from 10 to 90 pounds using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates.   • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or hold valid DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Ability to hand-lift and use two-wheeler, lift gate and other equipment to move and stack product cases or freight of varying size and weight

Job Qualifications

  • Hand-held point of delivery scanning system experience preferred
  • Customer service-related work experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Inspect tractor/truck and trailer to ensure company safety standards and report safety issues or repair needs
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately report all safety hazards and inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and accuracy of customer invoices for loaded products
  • Move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined routes and schedules
  • Unload products from trailer and transport items into designated storage areas
  • Perform damage control checks on items and contact supervisor about removing orders
  • Verify delivery with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • Collect money where required
  • Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
  • Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are secured and locked
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • Perform daily record keeping of hours of service and enter logs in accordance with regulations
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock areas and secure all equipment at shift end
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
