The company currently has an opening for a Class A City Driver at its Williamsville, NY location. The Class A City Driver role involves safely operating commercial vehicles to pick up and deliver general freight within the city. Drivers are responsible for loading and unloading trailers, sometimes using mechanical freight handling equipment or dockworker assistance, and performing frequent physical activities such as lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying freight. Drivers must ensure freight is secured properly, inspect vehicles for defects, and comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, including rules related to hazardous materials transportation. This role requires maintaining accurate records such as driver logs and adhering strictly to hours-of-service limitations to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • valid Class A commercial driver’s license
  • verifiable interstate driving experience
  • ability to pass DOT physical examination
  • ability to pass pre-employment drug screening
  • possession or ability to obtain required endorsements such as Haz-Mat and Tanker
  • no recent driver’s license suspensions or revocations
  • no serious traffic violations or patterns of multiple violations
  • consent to background and work history checks
  • ability to comply with all federal, state and local regulations
  • ability to perform physical demands of the job including lifting and carrying freight
  • willingness to work as an at-will employee

Job Qualifications

  • Two years of verifiable interstate driving experience or a minimum of one year of verifiable interstate driving experience and a diploma from an accredited driving school approved by PITT OHIO
  • pass a PITT OHIO driving test administered by an approved trainer
  • possess or obtain within 90 days Haz-Mat and Tanker endorsement on a current valid driver’s license
  • possess only one valid driver’s license issued by resident state
  • no record of driver’s license suspension or revocation for more than 30 days in the past 36 months
  • no record of citation or conviction for serious traffic violations during the past 60 months
  • no pattern of more than three motor vehicle violations in 36 months
  • no record of involvement in more than one at-fault traffic accident and limited motor vehicle violations in past 36 months
  • pass Department of Transportation physical examination
  • consent to pre-employment drug screen and negative results from prior employers for controlled substances and alcohol
  • no refusal to submit to drug or alcohol tests in past 3 years
  • consent to a ten-year work history check
  • ability to read, write English and perform simple math calculations

Job Duties

  • Drive a commercial vehicle safely while picking up and delivering general freight
  • load and unload trailer, either individually or with assistance of dockworkers
  • perform frequent lifting, pulling, pushing and carrying of freight
  • secure freight as required through strapping or other methods
  • inspect the vehicle for defects and safe operating conditions as required by law and company policy
  • comply with all federal requirements regarding the transportation of hazardous materials
  • drive tractor/trailer in all conditions in accordance with federal regulations
  • maintain records required for compliance with state and federal regulations including driver’s logs
  • perform all duties in accordance with company policies and comply with all federal, state and local regulations for safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle
